Our '09 is being built but the dealership says no upgraded iDrive yet. I told them we'll pass and wait till the upgrades are ready. Now they're checking to see if they can get a definitive answer.

Waiting until you're 17 to get an M3 isn't learning the hard way...

Funny how that works.

I originally waited on an '09 because I wanted to avoid the extra depreciation hit and I wanted to see what kind of problems would turn up on the new M3. Now, I'm glad I did, because it looks like the '09 will probably get the new iDrive.

I'm waiting patiently I was not waiting specifically for the I-drive, I was just waiting to order an 09 and wanted to wait until the prices are set. I feel like not having specific prices to deal with would make it harder to get a decent deal. Otherwise, if I am ordering a car whose prices haven't been set, it would be too easy for the CA to just stick with MSRP. Maybe nothing to that, but in any case, now that I'm here, might as well wait until I-drive is confirmed, and prices are confirmed (again). I shouldn't be in any hurry... I still enjoy my M Coupe. Maybe I can get one more track day in this year.

I've been told by my CA that prices are set. MSRP for the E90 is +700 and DCT is +200 from MY2008. Everything else is the same. Don't know anything about the coupe since that's all the info he gave me.

The last I read, BMW released the prices, then took them back and said nevermind, at least for the options. Maybe I missed something in the interim. In any case I think I'll wander over to the dealer next week and get the ball rolling.

Totally... I had to wait until I was 36 to even buy my first brand new BMW (E46 'vert). Of course, I had other financial priorities in my 20's and early 30's (education and homeownership to name two).

Me either... The waiting game only pays off until the next best thing is available. In the meantime, I've been enjoying the drive! This car was totally an investment in my soul. Sounds cheesy but I mean it.

Also, IMHO, the new iDrive (screen / graphics) is nifty looking but that cluster of buttons around the controller is FUGLY and counter to the original intent of iDrive. What's so hard about leaning the controller into N,S,E,W position to choose main functions... or... better... using the Voice Command feature? Why did they have to add the "stupidity buttons" around the knob?

The coupe's base price has been increased by $1,000. Other than the DCT, all other options are the same.

I wanted to wait but decided that if I die tomorrow, today what was the point of waiting? I can always buy a new M3 next year. At least I got the months of driving pleasure compared to those who waited. If I had a choice I would buy a one hump car since I do not even use the satnav, but in SA the M drive package comes with 2 humps. So there.

I don't even know where to start with this; I'm actually fairly disturbed that you would think this.

No offense, but learning the hard way is having to work a shitty job at McDonald's for years to buy a piece of shit second hand '91 Civic and feeling like it's the best goddamn car in the world.

But I suppose it's all relative. Even that's easy compared to living in some third world shithole and making .25 a month that goes to feeding your family.

I agree, some of his wording was a bit scary. My first car was an 88 Honda Accord with 144k miles on it. I paid 3k for it and with a little help from my Dad as a birthday present, I paid for the car from my various summer jobs like cabana boy work, mcdonalds, etc.. I can't fault him too much, since I would've let my parents buy me anything, but I did have to use my hard earned money for every purchase I made. Not that I think you will grow up to be anything less, if your parents didn't buy you a car, but it does teach you to learn how to manage your money, be independent, and not expect hand-outs. An M3 as a first car is begging for trouble. Most first cars end up getting dinged up or worse, and there's less of a feeling to take care of it since it was a gift. Either way, enjoy such a great first car, take great care of it, and DRIVE CAREFULLY!!!! It takes years of seat time to develop good defensive driving skills, and sometimes we as young enthusiasts make terrible mistakes in judgement on the street. In these situations, sometimes we get lucky and many times we don't.

I know I am WAITING for it. Althought the knob thing looks better on the old generation. The new interface rocks. And why buy an old one when the new one is right around the corner. (but i still digg the old //M exclusive milled aluminum knob though)

+1

That's really sad that "waiting one extra year to get a new 3 series" is even mentioned with "learning the hard way" in the same sentence.
