Castrol 10w-60 oil

Does anyone use the new edge titanium (not edge sport!)? Wondering how this compares to TWS, apparently some dealers are using it now?

TWS is expensive to import and $$$ at stealerships. What are people using in Aus? I'm swapping oil out every couple months with s/c and track.

TWS now end of production, new oil called edge professional TWS 10W60 now taking place for the old TWS. i will post some photos when I have chance to take some photos in my workshop

I called castrol and organised to buy it direct in 20L tins. Dealership wanted $35 per L and I am now paying $14

Hi All,
Have been reading a while, but my first post here. I've only had my M3 for a little over a year, and oil topics are of interest.

I bought a used car and, first thing I did after getting the car home was to replace all the fluids. I went to Brisbane BMW for that, and I know that they are using Shell 10W-60, as that's what they put in my car. For my next change, I bought the oil (and other consumables) that I wanted and had Motorline BMW do the service.

Anyways, just thought I'd add that point to the discussion - the dealerships aren't all using Castrol here in Aus anymore.

I know motorline push Shell. Interesting on the M though, when technically I think it voids warrant using non TWS.

I'm probably going to give liqui moly a try too, from Autobahn. It's a german oil and tests well with low wear on our cars. I've ordered some TWS from US, but need to dump oil this week.

Liqui moly has a great reputation, and i know some guys in the high hp 335i turbos who use oil have switched to liqui moly and said oil consumption improved dramatically, if not cured the issue.

Whenever i have looked though, it has been really expensive (much more then the castrol) so i just stick with the LL01 approved edge.

I called Castrol and this is what they say is the replacement and make this statement in the Data sheet attached Castrol EDGE Professional TWS 10W-60 is endorsed for use in BMW M – Models.

I have a contact number for anyone who wants this in 5 litre bottles for $66.25
($13.25 per litre) Handy that 2 containers will do an oil change with some to spare

Possibly off topic, but does anyone here have an oil pressure gauge/sensor installed on their car?

I don't get any oil pressure info from the OBDII port, so would be interested to know if anyone has any oil pressure measurements they can share for the oil grade they are running?

Yes, I'm running oil pressure, water temp and boost. Oil pressure is around 100 psi on cold start up and drops to about 65psi idle 75 - 80 psi running hot

A good idea for a SC car. The better gauges have programmable alarms with lower and upper thresholds so you don't have too look at them all the time.
Also they are a nice bit of bling and fairly easy to install

This is the Gauge set on my M3, great setup and quality gauges.
The panel you can go 3d-design or Macht schnell, gauges for M3 I recommend Stack,VEI or Defi, there is another one that I can't remember the brand... but has to be 52mm.

Are the inputs from the ECU - or new sensors?

My performance steering wheel already has digital water and oil temps which is basic stuff, but I would want oil pressure and boost taken from the pressure lines?

Yes, I used a Macht Schnell guage pod with a minor mod, they also sell an oil block T which has a steel line and keeps the OE pressure sensor in the same place so installation is easy.

The VEI boost gauge is also a vacuum gauge and all of them have facilities to store upper and lower limits/alarms. The other thing you probably should look at on your monster is a Wideband Air-Fuel Ratio Monitor.

AEM also make really professional gauges

How'd you go getting the TWS Dave?

I recently faced the same issue of either paying $38 a litre from BMW, ordering it from the US and paying ridiculous shipping or switching to Liqui Moli. I did the latter and to be honest I can't flaw it, no difference whatsoever. Was perfect at the track too.

However, I do feel somewhat dirty using non authentic oil (despite some track dedicated E46 M3's running Liqui Moli).

I'm keen to switch back to TWS if I can get it locally for a good price... $70 for 5L is awesome!

Yes, I have a definite price of $66.00 for 5 litres from Rocklea. If anyone wants to join me in a bulk order please let me know. At the dealerships the oil is $40.00 per litre as opposed to $13.20 a saving of $26.80 per litre, not bad. Let me know by PM or on my FB page

I use green goanna in Sydney.

They will also sell it in 3x5L packs for only a little more
