I'm 5'11" but my leg to torso to arm ratio is not normal. If I want to stretch my legs forward then I have to have the seatback almost perfectly straight to reach the wheel. If I tilt the seat back then I can't reach the wheel and have to slide forward, cramping my legs. If I have the steering wheel in an ideal position, I can't see the gauges.

It took about 3,500 miles but I finally found the perfect settings. Every few days I would make a small adjustment and save the settings.

I'm 6' tall, and with sport seats, I set the back of the seat all the way down, the front of the seat all the way up, and backrest more vertical and racing style, for great thigh support. I sit pretty far forward, with the steering wheel all the way down. Side bolsters are cranked in as far as they go. It's very comfortable and controllable, however it sure would be nice if the instrument cluster could adjust down as well; the steering wheel obscures about 40% of the tach and speedo.....

now hear this ......... I'm six foot one and in the cockpit

no on a serious note ... I have 2 driving positions one for the city and one for the highway.

A) City close to the wheel at all times to be ready for anything.

B) Highway further away to be more comfortable.

Ive set up positions "A" and "B" in memory so no fiddling around just pressing position 1 or 2 on the memory selector switch.

Cheers, happy trails always and yes be comfortable when the situations allows it, otherwise be alert be very alert for you are driving a powerful machine as you well know

I sat in the new 3 and BMW has addresses this. There's much more legroom for the driver and the wheel telescopes 50% further. However I'm not a fan of the new 3, so was starting to look at used M5's for something a bit larger.
You and me both... Thats why the wife now drives the M3 and I bought an SVT Raptor 4 dr... LOL...

no its a little bit of a struggle for me as well especially on the track as headroom also comes into play with a helmet and sunroof on my e90. i tend to put the seat as far as i need to for my legs then recline slightly so i have headroom and pull the telescoping wheel out as far as possible and thats about as good as i can get. when on the street i do as you moving the postion around frequently to get it a little better.

I was at the dealership and sat in the car I was gonna buy that day for the first time and the seat was back pretty far. I'm 5'6" so I need it close up...but it got me thinking "Damn it must suck to be over 6ft in this thing" Sitting that far back, even if it was the right position for it looked very uncomfortable for someone taller IMO...Im not tall but man I feel close and personal to the console and instrument cluster, which is why I drive a 3 series M. My friends 6ft+ opt for the larger 5 Series...which is too bit for me and the M5 is no sloutch either...its just too big of a car for me...but I can understand what youre talking about...but if you have the full power seats there should be some sort of comfortable position for ya...I put my seats down to the floor as much as possible and rock the seat backwards a bit then adjust the back rest of the seat...but thats me. I talked to a guy that races and he told me you should always be up on the steering wheel for maximum control of the vehicle. In some cases that can be uncomfortable itself but the M3's give a ton of control to suit a wide variety of people

Do what I did, get an X5M! After 4 M3s (2 E46, E92, E93) I could never get comfortable. I am happy to say I have never been happier. 6'3" 230

Hahahaha I like the way leg to arm ratio, hair colour, eye colour, pants inseam and weight get mentioned

I'm 6'3" and I don't have a problem. When I do have passengers in the back seat they seem to sit fairly uncomfortably

More upright and arms 45 degrees bent when holding the wheel. when you turn left or right 90 degrees....the back of your shoulders should not leave the seat. this is proper track driving position. but it works for me for daily driving too. when I was doing ATCC...this was the preferred position for me. ATCC = Asian Touring Car Championship.

6'1" here w/ long arms and legs and I have no problem whatsoever getting comfortable The seats are adjustable in just about every way imaginable. I tweaked mine during the first day of ownership and haven't touched it since.

No, I tend to tinker with the settings as well. I also need the wheel to telescope a bit more than it does.

I'm 6'4'' and love the seats. I have lower back issues and this is the best car seat ever for me. I do wish the steering wheel would adjust back a bit further, though. I do not have the seat that far back as I want all the control I can' get.

6'6" and 230lbs here and I fit pretty comfortably in my E92 M3. I have to have the seat all the way back which makes my car effectively a 3 person vehicle but I'm OK with that. The only real gripe I have is that I wish the seat would go lower. Switching back and forth between my 997 and the M3, it feels like I'm perched ON the M3 instead of sitting IN the 911. It's a strange feeling during the transition - after a while I get used to it and when I switch back to the 911 I feel like I'm sitting super low.

Amazing to me how comfortable I can be in the 997 though - considering it isn't a very big car, it's more comfortable for me than even my wife's Volvo XC60 SUV.

its because you're driving an e90. notice that none of the e92 guys that are over 6' don't have any complaints?
two door cars are roomier for 6'+ people. one reason i'll always DD a coupe, i can't stand a B pillar directly to my left blocking my peripheral vision, plus the room.

Ah, I never thought of that. My past M3's were coupe's, and I dont recall this as an issue. My current M3 is the sedan.

Maybe its time to go test drive a coupe

I'm 6'2 and 210 lbs. I came from Cayman S that was super comfortable. About the only car that I've ever felt that was too small was the s2000. The M3's fairly comfortable. I like the gokart like racing feel to it.

6'2" here. Have back of seat down ,front up with thigh pads extended and its comfortable. Have the same issue with getting steering wheel right though...if I set it for best control, can't see all of the cluster.

hrmm, ill chime in on this.

i cam from a recaro pole position in my previous car so im used to sitting in track form-ish, but with a DECENT fitting in this car, my hair tends to occasionally touch the roof near the door.
and no, i not rocking a mohawk or something ridiculous, but there is definitely some volume in my hair.

i have an e92 coupe, 2013
im about 6'1
200 lbs
CF roof
heated seat combo, or, whatever the non m-sport manual seats are
short femur/legs, arms arent terribly long either

granted, its been about a week of owenership, but i still cant QUITE get it
