Shopping for warranty and maintenance
I have a 2012 M3 with 22k miles. The in service date was 11/2011. The lease is ending next month and I plan to buy it out. I want to get a 7yr/100k mile extended warranty and possibly the extended maintenance plan as well (is that worth it?). I do drive a lot now like 15k+/year. Where can I get the best price on the warranty and/or maintenance? Any dealers interested?

You might get a better deal buying the package but I would do some research on the maintenance pkg. Yes, 15k per year is a lot but realize you will still be on BMW's condition based service and you may not get your money's worth.
I skipped the extended maint. but I drive roughly 10k per year so I knew that I wouldn't get enough maint. done under the plan to justify the cost. As for an extended warranty, the BMW plan is good but read the fine print on electronics (iDrive etc). There are some good 3rd party plans as well. If you're eligible, USAA offers an excellent plan at a much lower price than the BMW plan...

Thanks. By the way, I am in Bay Area (NorCal). Does anyone know if it is possible to buy out the car now and finance it then buy the extended maintenance plan and refinance the car with that in a year? Point is why pay for it now and pay interest on the financing when I can get it when my 4 year maintenance is about to expire.

You can buy the extended plans right up to your four-year in-service date. The higher the mileage, the more they will charge though. But not sure it's worth buying a year or more before it is needed...

USAA warranty, way cheaper than BMWs. Just had my evap replaced with no hassles. Paid $1800 for warranty and repair was $3500 so already ahead of the game and still have 4.5 more years of coverage.

what about people who don't have any relatives in military? There is no way I can be USAA member, so how can I get such a warranty?

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1025979 I think I'm going to skip the warranty and take my chances up to the 50k-60k mile mark and replace rod bearing then. (i'm only at 28k miles now). My theory is that when my warranty expires at 6 years. I still have factory bearing and I'm back to square one. So, why spend the money on warranty and replace rod bearings 2-3 years from now. I did my refi with DCU and obtained 1.49% for 65 months. maybe they can help you as well. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1033046 good luck and let me know if you have any questions. dagolfpro

I have a USAA membership and the cheapest 5 year/75k mile plan is over $3k. The 5 year/100k option is ~$4.8K. Are these negotiable? My warranty doesn't end until next year, 11/15. If I waited to buy and put another 15k miles on the car, the extended warranty would go up $2k and I would only get a 4 year option instead of 5. Seems to me the best option is to purchase now, even though the warranties would overlap each other.

If you try to get a warranty that covers every little repair with no deductible, of course it will be more expensive. I see a warranty as something to cover major failures like engine, trans, differential, and our friend the A/C evaporator(!). I don't mind paying a deductible, it's the unexpected $3500+ repair bill that stings. If something breaks like a Nav screen or a power seat, at least you can still drive the car while budgeting for the expense. For these reasons I would generally consider a power train plus sort of warranty over a full bumper-to-bumper.

how many miles do you average per year? If you're well under 10k, then don't buy the maintenance package, it'll be much cheaper to just pay for the maintenance out of pocket.

I can get you a full extended warranty for ANOTHER 5yr/100kmi. It's about $4k (little less). PM me for the details.
No maintenance. All repairs can be done by who you want (I take mine to the dealer). For example is doesn't matter if its a 2012 or a 2008. It will be +5yrs and +100,000mi (from what miles are already on your car) from when you sign up. My car is covered to 153,000mi or Nov 2019 whatever comes 1st. ZERO DEDUCTIBLE EDIT: I've had a ton of PM's about this. Contact Colin @ Wanted Auto Protect. colin@wantedautoprotect.com Last edited by Disturbed; 10-15-2014 at 07:52 PM.. I can't answer for them but they never had a problem with minor bolt-ons like CAI or exhaust. You would need to ask about FI. The people I use have a zero deductible and it's the price I've been taking about. Includes towing and road side assistance. 5yr/100kmi. It really is the best plan I've ever seen. |

For about $700-800 more you could have had the same plan for 5yr/100kmi with zero deductible. |

CarMax
I am buying a 2011 30k mi E92 from CarMax. The warranty is bumper to bumper 5y/up to 100k $100 ded, can use dealer, for $3100. $200 ded $2700.
Not sure if you can get it if you did not buy a car from them, but it's a no brainer for me. Their warranty is known as the best, and the cheapest. Dealers I know have no problems getting paid once the problem is diagnosed, and submitted. |

Even if I go with a pair of 62mm turbos on the stock block.
All kidding aside, you may have someone take you up on that if you allow FI. How many years and miles would that be? Does that include road side assistance? Towing? What's the plan deductible. |

Just purchased a premium protection plan through Assurant Solutions (Underwriter for USAA) for $1869 4yr/50k miles. Can't beat that and it seems they have pretty good reviews compared to others.
