So, I'm bringing this thread back up - I had finally had the chance to go back to the dragstrip with my IS-F and I'm at 3000 miles now.

FYI, I ran 5 times - the best run which is always the first run was not recorded because the tracks system malfunctioned. But, here are my 4 runs:

12.795@111.78 1.968 60'
12.857@111.01 1.951 60'
12.911@110.66 1.975 60'
12.867@109.71 1.967 60'

Now, this is 1/2 tank of fuel, kept all the parts and spares in the trunk (actually, had 25 pounds of stuff in the trunk) and the DA for the day was about +2000 feet. For those that know anything about drag racing, +2000 is like leaving 2-3/10s as compared to STD. If I were to run on a cold dense day when DA is like -1000, I'd be doing low 12's.

I will admit to ONE mod - I'm using lighter 18" wheels and tires that I just didn't have time to take off since I went to the road course a few weeks ago.

Run #2 and #3 that you see was against an M6 that ran 13.1 and 13.0 - he was faster at 113.XX mph but he didn't launch very well (like 2.3 and 2.2 60')

Not sure why you are trolling back here? Do you have to find ways to justify your purchase to everyone? The IS-F is an IS-F no matter what you do to it. You aren't changing anyone's minds here and they aren't changing yours.

Since I'm already on this thread, my opinions on the IS-F sadly align with those in the thread. I hate to agree, but the IS-F is a terrible attempt from Toyota trying to make a driver's car. The brand is great, but the F branding really does mean Fail (I daily drive a Toyota and it's perfect).

Lexus should of developed a 6MT, introduced a coupe form earlier, trashed the Celica-style plastic exhaust tips, and developed the design in-house. Toyota did a great job with the styling of the IS, I can't believe they destroyed it with that nasty no-name tuner.

That's my favorite part....

WOW.....and if the DA was better you could run low 12's? Are you kidding me?

Gotta love our clueless troll!

How much you do think you'd run without any back seats, door panels etc...?

And this was with light wheels too?

And here is my estimate:

First, you need a better DA, so you can run from high 12's to like low 12'. Then:

1. Take out the 25lbs of stuff you had in your car and you'd run flat 12's
2. Add an exhaust and you'd be running high 11's
3. Add an intake and you'd be running mid 11's
4. Add race gas and you'd be running low 11's
5. Add drag radials and you'd be running high 10's easy
6. Take out the back & front seats and you'd be running mid 10's.

Now, if you want to do better than mid 10's, I think you have to go turbo, but according to your logic and my plan above... this the best way to run better and hit even mid 10's easy.

Hey, I just posted my results to show you that the first day at the strip was probably more of a fluke and really not representative of my car.

In any case, I do not live my life 1/4 mile at a time nor on a race track - I do those for fun sometimes. Most of the time, I'm going back and forth from work.

In addition, you've completely missed the tone of my post - once again. But I really could care less.

BTW, you got it all wrong - when I get rid of my 25 pounds in the trunk and remove the quad exhaust and remove the intake and add race gas and add drag radials, I'll be doing 9's. Not 10's. Especially when it's really cold and the DA is like -10,000 and the track is covered in ice! I'd get awesome traction with those blizzaks! I don't need drag radials or awd. Oh, forgot to add - the Super Duper Boost button will take off another second or two so I might even be into the 8 second range!!!!

One question I have is, why do you persist on bashing me and my posts? Maybe I've come to the BMW sites to get an idea of which car to get next? FWIW, my wife wants a fast BMW for her next car so that's why I'm here in the first place.

So, I'm not here to argue with you guys - how about some peace? Afterall, this page is about "General Automotive - Non-BMW talk".

Do you think your IS-F is fast? And, your wife wants a fast BMW, then how about a 335i with a tune? As you must know by now (being on E90Post), a tuned 335i will yield just as good if not better results as your more expensive and less fuel efficient IS-F.

btw -- if your IS-F ran the 1/4 mi. in 12.795sec. @ 111.78mph, then yes it's fast; it could be faster, but fast enough I guess.

When I first got the car, I thought it was fast... but now I don't think it is. You get used to the power after about a week or so. AND, there is no end to wanting more HP. One thing I'm trying to do now is take it tracking more - improve my driving and explore the limits of the car and be comfortable doing it. When I finally master this car, I'll probably move on to a more "driver's" car whatever that may be in a couple of years.

BTW, the fuel efficiency of the IS-F isn't so bad. I average about 2 mpg less than my IS350. In all suburb driving, that's about 17-19 mpg. HW cruising at 60 mph is about 31 mpg and cruising at 85 is about 25 mpg.

And, the IS-F isn't so expensive as everybody makes it out to be. I think somebody figured out that the M3 is about 15K more than a comparably equipped 335i. The m3 is about 10K more than the IS-F. The IS-F and 335i is about 5K difference and that can be eaten up pretty easily and then some by going to forged 19" rims, BBK, suspension mods, tune, etc.

Really? I thought the IS-F is around 60k. How is that a 5k difference?

cold weather, sport, premium, nav, keyless entry, step, etc (simillarly equipped). If you get the 19" forged, it's only a 2-3K difference between 335i and IS-F.

Seems like we have some problems doing simple math here.

I just built a fully loaded IS-F for $61,400 and a fully loaded 335 is a round 51-52k.

Don't talk to me about aftermarked wheels and crap.
I ran 12.8 @ 111mph bone stock with a chip.

Again, how is that a 2-3k difference?

Unless you're getting one helluva a deal (below invoice), I don't see how the IS-F is within a couple thousand $$ of the 335i. Even with the PROcede v3, it's only an extra $1,495 (and other tunes are even less). Add wheels/tires...well, I guess, but you could do those aftermarket mods to any car. Maybe Lexus is giving them away now.

Plus, I guess it's just a matter of opinion, but the Lexus IS350/IS-F are just not as good looking as the 335i (even the sedan), imho. The lines on the Lexus aren't that sexy. Please understand that I used to drive 3 Lexus' in the past, and loved them...but they're not exactly sports car oriented (although it's apparent they're trying to change that beginning with the IS-F); Lexus is... luxury first, performance second, while BMW is...performance first and luxury second.

I think the difference in your packaged 335i and the way I did it is probably 5K for the BMW forged 19" rims, 1,250 for the M aero package, and 1,400 for active steering. The way I had it configured, it comes out to be about $58,775. So still, you figure 51-52K - but you add $1,500 tune, aftermarket 19" forged rims and tires (that's still like 3-5K) and now there's only 5K difference. Still, the 335i sound system isn't as good as the Mark Levinson sound system - can you even get an in-dash 6 disc DVD changer for the 335i? For somebody that NEEDS an automatic, the 8 speed auto in the IS-F is aguably one of THE best slushboxes in the world. It's LS460 smooth when you want it, it's super efficient when you want it, and it's pretty agressive and sporty when you want it to be. What kind of price do you put on that kind of autobox? 2K? 3K?

I'm not trying to justify the price of the IS-F. Honestly, I'd be happier if it were 10K cheaper... I'm just merely saying in an apples to apples comparison to the 335i comparably equipped, the IS-F isn't so overpriced. BTW, did you ever see the underside of the IS-F? It's almost a true dual 2.5" exhaust. It's pretty good for a stock exhaust.

For horrible parallel parkers, the front and rear parking sensors with backup camera really makes it brainless. Not to mention the side mirrors moving down to wheel level so we don't curb our rims.

Too bad they did away with the ventilated seats - they were great in the IS350... But there are a lot of just little things that the IS-F has. Steering HID headlights for one - work great in the country where lighting isn't so good. Headlamp washers when you're driving in a lot of snow/slush. All LED lighting. Exterior puddle LED lights that light up around your car when you get near it. Keyless entry and pushbutton start (yeah, sounds dumb - but after getting used to it, you'll never look back).

The brakes on the IS-F are 14.2 inch Brembos on front and 13.x something in the rears. All I can say is that they work flawlessly. Some magazines say they're too grabby - but I don't find they're too grabby at all (only the first few times you hit it when you first get the car, but after that, you get used to the awesome brakes).

Stying is purely subjective - the 335i looks great - I'll give you that, but in my eyes, the IS looks great too. Definitely a different style that you'd either hate or like.

I know that BMW service is included but how many services do you get? In the 28 months I had my IS350, my total service bill was only 300 bucks or so - yeah, I took it to the cheap 10 minute oil change places next to my work and used Mobil 1 synthetic. I fully plan on taking my IS-F to it too.

You guys are right - BMW is more sport than luxury and Lexus is more luxury then sport but the IS-F is more sport than the 335i. IS-F is less sport than the M3 though. If you haven't actually driven in the IS-F, please don't bother to comment about how much sportier the 335i is.

AND, one last thing - I'm not interested in playing with too much fire (ie: destroying a 20K engine and having it not covered under warrantee). It's already dangerous that I take it to the drag strip and the track - I'm fully aware that any accidents at the track won't be covered. One reason why I'm considering a more affordable track car that's cheap to repair - I'm thinking 350Z. Used they're dirt cheap and they handle pretty well.

Again, you are being an idiot. What the fuck do the 19" wheels have to do with anything? And active steering? Lexus doesn't have the AS, moron.

Go back to your lexus board and tell them there how much you know about BMW's, because you are clearly smoking some good crack.

Your service bill in 28 months was ONLY $300? How much mileage did you have on your car when you got rid of it...10,000? lol

I was at a Lexus dealer yesterday......the 4 IS-F's on displayed were around $60k......no mark-up

I was very impressed with it.......but I wouldn't pay $20k more for a V8

Trying getting a M3 for $61k..........

The 335i should be compare to the IS350...........not the IS-F

That's like me comparing my Fit to an Evo VIII
