Auto Club Speedway 1:53 (SV BimmerChallenge) 02.24.2013

Video from ACS on 02/24/2013

Was a very windy day, near-biblical. Otherwise, probably would've reached 160 by T1, instead of 155 on this day.

nice! I'm curious. Did you heat cycle the TDs? or did you just go all out from the start?

p.s - looks like you were in corvette hell for a while there.

Wow awesome driving! Thx for posting. I replayed a few segments so that I could watch your hands and learn what you did in certain situations.

Looked like you were having a lot of fun getting the tail out a bit as well. I'm looking forward to trying out Auto Club Speedway someday.

I was there on Sunday, but didn't enter the Bimmer Challenge. The wind was a bit of a factor as you mentioned.

Were you in the Red or Green Group then?

Man, 1:53 is a respectable time in the M. Very nice!

Thanks.

Yes, I did heat-cycle the TD's. I did it during the first session of the first day with these tires (at Buttonwillow a couple of weekends ago).

Thanks.

I could reduce the oversteers if I straighten out the steering wheel more when I get on the gas. On some of the corners where I had to correct in the video, there are actually some room on the outside where I could've tracked out more.

Which garage # were you in or near? I was in #7 (closest to the gas pumps). All the white E92's that I took photo of were in that row of garages.

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...4807617&type=1

I was in the Green Group (due to last ACS/SV time being 1:56), but 1:53 now should get me into the Red Group. I could've bumped up into Red that day I suppose.

Thanks, but I need to be at... 1:51 or 1:50 with TD's. Kaiv & miniCorsa ran low 1:53's on R-S3's. But, on such high-speed tracks like ACS, perhaps tire choices aren't that big of a factor. Not sure.

Great video and looks like a fun fast track. Have yet to be on an oval yet, but looks awesome! Vettes are the worst, they are the faster car, but rarely are driven that way, and they HATE a sedan coming up on their ass

Yeah, it's a scary-fun track.

The Vettes in the Red Group all had wings, and I'm sure most of them are much faster than the Vettes I had to do deal with.

Yeah, I suppose I could've bumped up during the day, but I was concerned about noise from the front suspension, which got a bit louder towards the latter part of the day.

In your own car, I think you run low 1:50's, right?

Was way over on the other side, garage 66. I was in black group. The open-passing allowed in Red/Green is a bit above my comfort level at the moment. The "incidents" always seem to happen in those groups.

Yeah, (I know I'm grossly over-simplifying things when I say) it's all about the tires. With NT01's or TD's, you'd be in the low 50's.

Thanks, and indeed.

This was the first ACS event I've been to where there were no blown-engine or spilt-oil (vettes). A few incidents were due to debris on the track from all that wind.

What pressure do you run on these? Cold/Hot? On NT-01's I would run 27-28 cold and 36-38 Hot. These similar to it? Just looking for a good starting point and go from there.

Thanks again

^33~34 hot, based on a recommendation from a local Porsche/Audi racing shop. Ran NT01's at that too.
