VF620 to VF650 upgrade. Remarkable difference

Around April of last year I had a VF620 installed and, as one would expect, noticed a huge increase in power. However, over time I felt the car needed a little more torque/power, the next logical step was going to the VF650. (VF620 install http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=833417)

I had it installed by the same folks in Chicago (now Euro Auto Tech). Honestly I wasn't expecting a major bump in performance but certainly received one; the car is a bullet. To give you an example, I was doing 80mph in 4th, punched it and the rear tires (which are relatively new btw), broke loose. I'm not kidding when I say the car is now scary to drive. I did not experience this with with 620 (albeit it was fast with that kit). Furthermore, it's much more consistent overall at making power given the same atmospheric/climatic conditions (this could be due to updates make to the software as I never updated my 620 from the time of install).

I want to give a big thumps up and thanks to Nik, Jeff, and Robert at VF. They were all very helpful and always followed up and answered questions. Also to Nasser at Euro Auto Tech, who also changed my rod bearings and installed KW Clubsports (wow what a difference over EDC handling wise, ride is a bit rough though).

I have relatively new tires (Michelins, of course) as well, and have noticed that the past few weeks, I can't really get enough heat in them to give a consistent amount of grip, so I can't even *imagine* what you're going through *lol*

Lol. My PSS have 5k on them so they are broken in and were fully warm, it's just waaay too much power and torque now. Not fun really to be have the feeling of loosing control at that speed. It will def make a better, or at least a a more alert, driver out of me.

Can't say because I've never had the VF650 kit in the summer. The 620 ran fine in the summer, though, there was some loss in power, which is to be expected; ran strong though

We get asked this question quite often and it always take me on a trip down memory lane

Fortunately, our Research and Design facility is based in sunny Southern California with dry deserts and many famous tracks within a few hours drive. Since development of our E9x M3 supercharger began 6-7 years ago, testing throughout various conditions and settings on multiple cars has evolved our design and technical features to provide a highly efficient, independent water-cooled supercharger system.

Pictured Below: one of our first designs. Testing proved that this setup was not sufficient to our goals.
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=345281

Taking what we learned from our unique E46 M3 slide-in cassette type, air-to-water cooling system and applying it to the E9x M3 systems, we had all of our Manufacturing techniques already proven through those platforms.
It was simply a matter of applying and improving the airflow to the M3's V8 configuration. Taking advantage of the same engineering and techniques for our Audi R8/Gallardo V10 systems and Audi R8 V8, the internal design of our 1-piece manifold was even more finely tuned.

(Pictured above: E46 M3 slide-in Heat Exchanger, Pictured below: LP570 Superleggera VF760)

This is another evolution of our E9x M3 system below. We were getting closer and closer:

From this design the final and most evolved design came to being:

Throughout, the front-mount heat exchanger was also decided to be sourced from Factory-grade quality.

The difference in quality between a cheaper alternative and a Factory-grade piece are not just in the welds and end-tanks, but in the density of the bars/plates and tubes/fins. The higher density provides exponentially greater surface area for heat exchange.

To keep from water stagnating and proper circulation flowing, we use a Bosch water pump optimally located and away from any potential damage beneath the car. Factory-grade fittings are also used to ensure proper flow.

The culmination of lots of small technical features/advantages add up to on overall, efficient design. Our system creates very high HP:boost PSI, but is also able to do so back-to-back and why many of our customers who track their cars enjoy the consistent power.

This is a great one to watch: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=852290
