Audi RS3 to get 2.5L 340ps from TT-RS

Has anyone else heard the rumour that Audi will soon show an RS3 based on the A3 but equipped with the TT-RS engine.

Such a car would spell the end for anyone wanting a 135i.

Is the AWD system in the A3 different than its bigger bretheren? I had heard it was, and inferior at that. I'm not 100% positive about this though. Seems like if that is the truth, hooking it up with the S4's system would make it a complete beast.

Anyway, probably not going to see it over here. It would be nice though.

isnt the rs3 a hatchback? I would still pick the 135i by a longshot.

if they made a smaller lighter rs5 coupe I would be interested, but they dont. They would have to cut the size to a 1's size, and cut the weight to a at most the weight of a 1 before I would even consider it

You are right the smaller Audis (A3 and TT) use a different AWD system than the bigger models, it's a Haldex system that usually puts 90% to the front and only shifting power rearwards when needed, though I did read that the latest TT-RS though still using the Haldex system it's setup more mimics the torsen system of the others. Not sure if it's that inferior, more different than anything else.

Also one of the European mags compared the M3 to the new TT-RS and it was the Audi that was victorious, so maybe an RS3 might well be worth a look if it does make it across the water.

Hey, don't bring me into any personal wars guys. I only used the 135i because this is a BMW forum and it's probably one of it's main rivals should Audi bring it out.

So where would pricing put it? I would think it would come to more than the 135.

If that car comes out and has a real torsen diff then Im sold. The inline 5 from the old URQ, 80-90, URS4 and many others is the best sound ever.

still has the engine on the wrong side of the front wheels.weight disribution is a horrendous 61/39(front/rear).handling dynamics will never equal a proper rwd car with 50/50 dist.

Read any of NewSong's posts, all he does is talk about how [insert car here] is better than the BMW alternative.

In this case I might be inclined to agree save for the fact that the A3 is only available as a hatch. I would also imagine an RS3 would also be significantly more expensive than a 135.

Not everyone likes AWD.

Audis have been outperforming BMWs in terms of outright speed for awhile, but that doesn't mean it's the top priority for everyone.

I don't think I'd ever care to own an AWD car over a respective RWD competitor.

Should be a badass car though.

I'm pretty sure that's an exaggeration. The funny part is footie is the one who said it's the end for the 135i, not me.

There's very few true competition for a car like the RS3, Mercedes don't really make one and the Focus RS is much too cheap and hasn't the brand image to be classed a rival either. In all honesty the only current rival out there for a car like the RS3 is be the 135i but even then it's well down on power and performance and will no doubt be cheaper as well.

Maybe Audi have found a niche in the market.

P.S.

But I think BMW need to keep an eye else where for competition for the 135i because the Golf R20 will wouldn't be more than a match for it and likely cost even less, plus talk is that this car WILL be going Stateside.
