agreed.. I am on the fence for a coupe vs. sedan, but the performance number differences may be substantial enough to push me into a coupe !

The difference in handing could be attributed to the Sedan having 18 inch wheels compared to the coupe with 19's. It has been reputed (but not verified) that the 19's are a bit more neutral in short tests. Although many prefer the 18's for track duty. (Note that it is a typo in the test data. The long term sedan did in fact have the 18's.)

The big thing that everyone misses is the delta in the weight. We are looking at 120 LBS difference. At least 50 LBS is carried in the roof on the sedan. (many estimate it closer to 70 lbs) That's 50-70lbs 5 feet off the ground!! Unfortunately, that works against the vehicle dynamics. (and boy do I miss having a sunroof!). The vertical center of gravity is known for the coupe, I would love to see them measure the sedan for comparison.

Remember that these are weighed on the same scale so the numbers are accurate. They also match other published data by credible sources. (grassroots motorsports, etc.) I am not sure where people are getting the weights from where they are the same or 20 lbs different.......

Also, just for disclosure, I tried to order a sedan myself, but the orders had already been taken. I try to avoid the fan-boy thing entirely.....

Ahh weight always screwing things up! I'm 6'7" and 265lb myself so I'm not very weight friendly either. My E90 probably runs 15s

The weight difference can also be due to different equipment of the car. A friend of mine has a coupé with DCT and sunroof which weighs 1670kg and my sedan 1680kg (without sunroof). Both fully loaded. 100-200 km/h is half a second difference between DCT and 6MT.

the tranny difference is the big delta in weight. DCT is quite a bit heavier than the manual. I have it written down somewhere but I think it is 70-80 lbs heavier than manual tranny.

These new manu-matics usually track and test better than the MT, so we should stay in an apples to apples comparison.

In the quoted test, they both had manual transmissions.

The other smaller options are negligible....I remember on the porsche forum, someone weighed the power seats VS the manual seats and the difference was something like 4 pounds......

I would have loved to see the sedan get a CF roof option. Or at least an Aluminum option. When I drove a sedan, I felt like it turned in better than my coupe...but then again, I was also sitting closer to the front of the car than the coupe.....

Lightbulb Sedan for me.

But, I have two kids so, it's a forgone conclusion.

This debate is like blondes vs brunettes, one can't go wrong with either so it just comes down to personal preference. There is no right answer, we all can just give our opinions. Blonde and E90.

FYI I think you sit a bit lower in the E92 Vs. E90. Not much but it could have given the "impression" of more speed when really there wasn't any difference. Hell my E30 feels MUCH quicker than it really is as it is only a few inches off the ground. Then I look down and I'm doing 23mph...

The coupe has a very slight performance edge and has a sleeker look. If you prefer a lot of junk in the trunk, the sedan it is.

Looks are subjective, performance less so and in the couple of quantitative comparisons published the sedan gets around a track marginally faster than the coupe.

I find the Sedan better looking and vastly more practical.
If you wanted my vote, there it is.

This is really upto personal taste.
I used to just love E90, but when I went to the dealer and saw ZCP Mineral white E92...damn....I fell in love.

Ended up getting the Sedan, I'm just a sedan guy, I love the ass look, I love the practicality that can sit 4 ppl comfortably on a long journey.
But there's definitely differences between the two. For me it was the sitting position.

Interestingly, both cars perform almost same even with the weight difference. And NO, sedans are NOT slower than the coupes. It really is upto the driving skill.
In fact, Keiichi Tsuchiya ran the E90 faster than the E92 on Tsukuba track.

I call this legit, aside from him being the creator of drifting, Tsuchiya is by far the best "test driver" out there, especially with this Tsukuba track he's been extensively testing cars for 25+ yrs, of course his level of driving with race records and most importantly his consistency of driving on circuit.

Im considering the same thing but will most likely get a Sedan. The decision would be soooo much easier if a CF roof was available on the sedan.

The coupe was faster by 0.08 seconds compared to the sedan in the Autobild comparo... (both DCT)

That sounds pretty evenly matched to me

It all boils down to personal needs and taste .
