2012 Nav Map Update

I just updated my Nav to the 2012 CIC NA Premium map using the 3 DVD's at home. Don't believe the dealership when they tell you there aren't 2012 update DVD's and the only way to update your CIC Nav is to bring it to them and pay $375!

The description for the 2012 map update says it has "other new map attributes" what are those new attributes?

I got it from a online BMW parts website that's very well known on here (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say websites here) bu the part # is 01990037287 and its listed as "DVD ROAD MAP NORTH A" for $11.56 and most likely say 2011 but 2011 & 2012 update dvds have the same exact part number. I suggest you email them and have them make sure that the part # comes with and they send a total of 6 discs (1, 2, & 3 of 3 for 2011 and 1, 2, & 3 of 3 for 2012) and the discs are labeled "CIC Premium" & "HIGH".

That's step 1. To complete the update you'll need a VIN specific FSC code. I got mine from a guy for $97 and received my code 5 mins after paypaling him! PM for that info.

The update process takes about 2.5hrs and you change discs at 35% & 75%. After you insert disc1, it'll ask for your FSC code. You enter it using the idrive knob and the update will begin after its entered. You can update as long as the cars on so that means you can drive, listen to the radio/iPod or leave the car on but motor off. You can also turn off the car mid update and it'll save your spot and resume when the car turns back on. If you're on disc 3 ans turn off the car, it'll ask you to reinsert disc 1 so dont panic lol. Just insert disc 1 then a couple secs it'll ask to insert disc 2 and then for disc 3 and resume from the last %. The last disc will automatically eject on its own after the update is complete then it'll ask you to accept the Nav restart. All done! You can verify you now have the 2012 maps by clicking Options in the Nav screen then scroll down to Nav Version on the bottom.

Yup apx 2.5hrs but remember you don't need to have the car on the whole time, you can stop and resume as needed. The dealership wanted to charge me 3hrs of "labor" on top of the cost of dvd's and fsc code! Lol

Are the maps "cooler" looking or just "updated" with more streets, etc.....?

If new look.....Screen shots?

maybe a dumb question but anyone know if the battery has enough juice to run the full 2.5 hour install without starting the engine/driving around?

I'm not sure. I started mine when I had to drive across town and run errands so I updated about a hour while driving and the rest at home with the power on/engine off with no problems

I haven't paid much attention to the details but in the description it say the 2012 contains new attributes. Maybe the 3D buildings are more detailed or something but for now it all looks the same. I'll let you guys know if I notice anything worth mentioning

Couldn't find any dealers to purchase the nav maps from legitimately. If you search around on google you may find other options. Not sure if dealers were instructed to pull this b/c of all the people upgrading it themselves with purchased FSC codes.

It looks like it's really hard to find a dealership that has the DVDs in stock. I got lucky and was told I got one of the last sets that were in stock in the country. I'm trying to find a way to make copies of mine to help all you guys out. I'll PM you the info for the fsc code.
