Hi Barry,

Will the Gintani X-pipe with HFC trigger CEL? I have my Akra Slip-On coming by the end of the month and I'm currently looking for a suitable X-Pipe that will further compliment and increase the volume of the Akra Slip-on but without triggering any CEL. I also want to avoid drone. My choices are down to Challenge's X-Pipe and Gintani. I also don't have any plans in getting a tune to delete CEL.

Thanks!

I've had CELs in less than 100 miles on my '08 and '11 cars with this xpipe so I'd say it's a given that it will trigger a CEL.

damnit i was reading that the gintanti x-pipe with hfc will not trigger a cell, i guess AA is the 'safest' bet so far but need more input

Raz of Gintani told me that they haven't seen a code thrown with their 300 CEL HFC so far and they hope not to see one either. I guess he was just really hoping. It seems Challenge's Street version X-Pipe is the safest bet if you wish to avoid any possible CEL as they retain the OEM Primary Cats.

Guess Raz/Gintani has ignored my comments then....

Very minimal drone. Definitely drones during the startup cycle but otherwise it's easy to carry on a conversation and listen to music. Great setup IMO!

Actually I just saw this today, why would I ignore your comments Barry .. lol anyways, you were driving with our xpipe for a pretty long time now, and all the our other customers haven't got the cel. Maybe the check engine light was for something else? If you still have the light on, then I want to do everything possible to take care of that for you.

Barry how long have you been driving with the Xpipe with HFC on. From what I've been told you also had the catless system also correct? Maybe the CEL was thrown from switching systems. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Raz - actually I've had a CEL on my '08 and '11 M3. I've only had the HFC setup and have not purchased the non-hfc pipe. I have discussed the CEL with Gintani when I had it on my '08 car and was not surprised when it occurred on the new car. So it's not the car, its the hfc/xpipe causing the CEL.

Thx,
BC

The reason why I asked if your car was fine was because you were the only one that reported a CEL code.. so I just wanted to make sure.

if you're interested in the Challenge pipe, then you should just consider going to a good exhaust shop and having them cut ou the secondary cats back to just before the resonators (if you want to keep them). They should be able to add the X-pipe back and weld it up for around $200. They wanted to cut after the stock X-pipe because the pipes there are not round so it would take more work to weld up nicely if they did it before the X-pipe.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
