Arrow Door Scratched by Intoxicated People...

Walked to my car in the afternoon and saw this... the police said that someone drunk probably tried to lean on my car and then slipped...

Anyway, most of the scratches are shallow (clearcoat) except for the one shown below, it ripped through the base paint. What's the best way to fix this? Should I get the entire door repainted or just get it touched up and do a clear bra to cover it up?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I thought you had a red M3? The whole door needs to be repainted IMO.

Sorry to see your car vandalized. When I took delivery of my car, it had a minor scratch on the bumper, about 5 mm, that even with touch up paint could not cover. The only fix that the dealer said will cover it would be to completely repaint to whole bumper. I chose to live with the scratch. I think you might have to repaint the whole door to get it to look like new. Touch up might not look that good and it would just remind you of the damage every time you get into the car.

I've got a guy here in Houston who will be fixing up a couple of minor scratches on my car this week. I'll let you know how it goes, and I can send you his contact info if I like his work. The clearcoat scratches are easily fixed, and he can probably give you a recommendation on the deeper stuff.

WTF is wrong with people? That really sucks--and this is the replacement for your red E92 6MT, so it's new (with DCT) as in a few weeks old at most, right? Geez.

I'd vote for having the door painted, that rub to the bone patch isn't going to be easily patched up.

How can someone 'slipping' do such damages?? May be it was a biker wearing spikes and chains around his neck and forearms...

In any case, sorry to read this Rich! May be TLud' s idea is a good one to start with?!?

Exactly. Looks like vandalism to me. Regardless, I'd be more careful where I park in the future. Good day.

He sold his red e92 and bought a used Jerez M (can't remeber which M). I remember there being a thread on it in the classified section.

I'd paint the whole door. Touch up and wet sand won't hide that scratch. Clearbra with excentaute the scratch even more if note taken care of.

Update: I've ordered a custom mixed touch up paint kit and will be attempting to paint the scratch on my own. If I fail I will just get the entire door repainted.

I also bought a bottle of 3M rubbing compound. It really worked magic as it removed most of the clear coat scratches. I did it by hand. However it would work even better with an orbitor.

This weekend I will hopefully receive the paint kit and begin the repair. My goal is to fill the deep scratch flat, wet sand and use rubbing compound to make it not noticeable. Then I may add a clear bra over it to cover it up more. Will keep everyone posted.

I found this post over on Autopia helpful for scratch repair, especially for a first timer with something like this:

Pretty impressive results.

ouch... since it is close to the edge BE CAREFUL when you are polishing the scratch. especially with an agressive compound! you could burn through the clear on the edge VERY quickly on the surrounding area...
