The less bends in the exhaust system means less restrictions and reduced back pressure.

A tight 90-degree mandrel bend on a 3 inch pipe poses about the same restriction as 7.5 feet of straight pipe.

The reported dyno numbers were very good on the RPI though.

Wouldn't it be great to see the Gintani, RPI, AA, Borla, and other exhaust systems installed on the same M3, on the same dyno, and same day.

maybe its due to the fact that there really is no backpressure because all 4 cats and both resonators are removed, was that rpi's way of creating some backpressure? a NA motor would loose low end power without some sort of backpressure.

True... but I'm not going for the full exhaust. Even though I love the sound I don't think I can live with that on a day to day basis. I've tried removing the cats on previous NA vehicals and have always regreted it (except my SRT-4 which had a turbo).

Ok, got one of the videos uploaded. I should be posting the dyno video in the next day or so.

In case it doesn't show up, here is the link:

You guys with your 70k M3s need to invest in better cameras..... the distortion in sound

It's actually a very good camera, but the mic level was set too high during the outside recordings. BTW, I don't work for Gintani, just a friend who helped out with the videos.

Maybe thats the problem... adjust it and get new videos! Its way too distorted and you cant even tell what it really sounds like. I know theres no way on earth its that loud and distorted in real life lol

Ive heard the full exhaust in person it sounds much better then the videos. Im sure the camera was a good one, and it probably was on a different setting.

BTW, the only part that is distorted and not really representative of the true sound is the first part of the video where the mic was mounted between the exhaust tips.

Check out the ending drive bys, u can get a better feel for the sound with less distortion...Well on a side note Yesterday As im trying to catch up to this R8 to compliment him, we get a red light together. As I give him 2 thumbs up he rolls down his window and asked me what I was running cause my car sounded like a nascar when I was coming up on him...lol, he said my car sounded really good and asked me to rev it... I love this exhaust, I get at least 1 compliment a day. Videos dont do it enough justice.

Backpressure = improperly designed exhaust system. Building an exhaust system is based on volume and egv. People bring up "Back pressure" because the exhaust was designed incorrecty so they use some sort of restriction to bring the velocity back up. I think there will be a number of different m3s at mfest so it will be a great time to see the performance on the different cars with different exhaust systems.

Options are always good. If everyone had the same thing, whats the point of racing?

The in-cabin sound on this one seem to be pretty decent.

No price/formal info?

Too much loss in backpressure = serious loss of low end torque. I'm sure RPi has thought of that before they mass produced the exhaust system. They are all about power gains.

As for this system, it sounds very exotic. If I didn't see what car it was I wouldn't guess it was an M3, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.
