I'm not a fan of the new tiny rear wings. Something just looks odd about them. Ohh and yeah Massa!!!

i heard formula 1 now could transfer brakes energy to kinetic energy which somehow could give extra boost equivalent to 50 Bhp. gonna be more & more exiting race to watch

its an optional KERS system....
some team opt not to implement for lighter car or better balance with more flexible ballast place on the chassis....

yah...its just announced on formula1.com
so there's 17 races in 2009....as long as someone won all 9 races from the start...the remaining 8 races will be worthless....

Hey hiya drwnwong,

Welcome to the F1 discussion, good to have ya here.

Yes, it's true. F1 teams are implementing technology that recaptures braking energy, to then be used as an extra 80hp of power for up to 6.6 seconds per lap. This technology is called KERS; Kinetic Energy Recovery System(s). This system is not compulsory for 2009. But, teams that choose not to use it are subject to a 30kg ballast "penalty".

From what I have read on the interwebs, BMW has a good system in place. And, they plan to use it in the 1st race of the year. It sure will be interesting to see what happens between the cars that do run it, and those that don't.

Here are some excellent articles from the Formula 1 website, that explain what is going on with KERS:

KERS Charging

KERS Boosting

Also, here is a good explanation of the differences from '08 to '09:

'08 Regs vs. '09 Regs

Happy racin'

i'm disappointed.....i heard there's a petition online against it.....
and everyone from planet-F1 have been bashing this STUPID IDEA....

i agree Bernie's intention was good....everyone should "aim for the win".....but this just eliminate the strategy and push all the drivers to do kamakazi move to gain track position and win....

if this was the rule in 2008....despite the win in Spa (i still think it should be Hamilton's....but that's another issue).......then the final half of Brazil GP will be boring....since Massa always leading the race (given if he doesn't retire).....there will be no tention in the last lap...last two corners in brazil....

I'm a big fan of Honda...really sorry to see them pull out like that.
Still...that chassis is developed by Honda and I like to cheer for underdogs. I really hope they can shine this year.

I will hold my opinions on the changes, I do believe they are trying to make F1 racing more interesting. Only time will tell.

Not sure how you know that when other teams and drivers don't believe that. Honda been developing that care since 2007 cause they gave up on the 08 crap chassis. We all will know the real performance next week if they are for real or not. Also, BGP is not running any KERS so they could have the right balance of the car and keeping it light as possible.

At least they can now re-fuel without penalty when the safety car is out.

I just don't understand how 40 cars turning in a circle for 5 hours is more entertianig than 40 laps around a real course, in the middle of cities and gorgeous scenery, in this country...never will I understand the appeal of NASCAR...
