What is this?!
I saw this on my wheel after I parked my car in the garage. It looks like black paint or tar. What's weird is I don't see any of it on the body of the car or the wheel well. Either way, it won't come off!

I looks like magic marker or a sharpie to me. Maybe some little juvenile delinquents? Good luck getting it off.
Cheers.

grr, I wish it was tire shine spray. I haven't cleaned my car in over a week.

I hate this. I never understood why someone would do that sort of thing. I don't want to get started down that path so I'll just say again: good luck and I hope it's able to come off easily and without leaving any damage behind. Cheers.

maybe some lubricant between tyre and wheel that travels accross the wheel as it spins

If it was centrifugal, then the lines would streak in straight lines away from the center of the wheel and wouldn't be parallel to each other like that. It looks like some sort of vandalism while your car was parked.

Update: I tried brushing it with soap and watered it down with a power washer and none of it came off. I'll try tar remover next, but I am having my doubts that it will work.

Try a clay bar, if that doesn't do the trick then you might be SOL

Where do you live in Jersey and where did you park?
I only park my M3 during the day and in places that there are a lot of 50K+ cars...I hate to say it but NJ has the highest scumbag per square mile out of any other state. |

Yeah, i agree. Went out of the way to find a substance that they carry around in a catchup type bottle and spray parallel lines on one wheel of and M3. Doesn't make much sense to me.

It seems unlikely that a vandal would be restrained enough to trash only one wheel and not trash the paint as well, to say nothing of the time it would take to make the marks. Even though the marks appear to be linear, I would still expect them to be accidental.
If you can feel a raised edge on the marks, try an adhesive remover like "Duck Adhesive Remover", "Goo Gone" or something similar. If you can't feel an edge, try denatured alcohol (rather than rubbing alcohol), an alcohol-based electronics solvent or perhaps a Dry-Erase Board cleaner from Expo or similar. By the way, none of these items will damage the finish on your wheels! Good luck!
