Loaner

Hey folks! What have you gotten as a loaner while your car's being serviced? What are your thoughts of the loaner?

My M3 is at the dealer for curb rash repair. Apparently, the wheel and tire insurance covers that damage as well. They needed a couple of days to send it out and back. So, they gave me a 2011 328xi with 4000 miles on it.

I gotta say it is a plush ride. A little slow to get going, but once it's up there, it goes. The DS mode is very nice. Overall, it's a nice little ride. BMW IS the ultimate driving machine.

535xi

I had forgotten how soft non-M cars are. it was also much bigger inside than i expected.

M steering wheel is the first thing I miss; then the moment the automatic creeps forward when you let go of the brake is a harsh reminder that you are no longer with your M.

Right now I have a 328i which goes back tomorrow morning. I HATE it. It has NO options. No iDrive, no bluetooth, no sunroof, no power seats, I'm surprised the damn thing has a radio.

In the past as loners I have had:
2011 F10 6 Speed 535i
2011 740Li Auto
2010 550 6 Speed
Mini Cooper S Special Edition
Various 2011 335's and 328's that are well optioned
Of course the crappy American cars when they are out of BMW loaners. Usually I'll wait for a good one unless I need to fixed immediately.

I heard many dealers are using 328's only now. The main dealer I use just got rid of all of their 335's. So turboless it is

Man, I'm just glad that I have a loaner. This one came with usb & sunroof. Nothing to complain about.

Yeah, I was wondering if they give out anything better.

There's the answer I was looking for. Wow, you must be tight with your dealer. 6 speeds? Man, didn't think they even loan those out. huh!

I've been driving a 128i for the last 2 weeks while they replace my DCT transmission. I absolutely hate it. I miss my 4 doors M and can't wait to have it back.

About two weeks ago I was given a 2012 535i with about 1400 miles on it. It was a nice car. It was quicker than I thought it would be but cornered like a boat. Kinda felt like a old man when I was driving it (surrounded by wood trim and beige leather). I was definitely happy to get the M back.

My dealer ran out of BMW's, so I had a Cadillac DTS yesterday. I felt like I was driving around in my sofa (turned like it too) or a big marshmallow. I was glad to get my car back. Its nice to drive a different type of car to set your mind back and see how special it is to drive an M3.

I had a e92 328i 6 speed before my M3. The 328i is a great car and I wouldn't mind driving it as a loaner. Glad to hear the OP appreciates it too.

My dealer gave me a Z4 3.0 (2010 I believe)... It was a very nice car. I took it up to the mtns. (top down) with my GF. It was lots of fun!

The loaner I received was a 2011 128i. Seemed like a good DD, but for a small car - it was NOT easy on fuel. It made the M3 look pretty good on the MPG department.

Dating back a few years I've had an X5 3.0, 128i, 135i, 328xi & 335i (both E90s), X3, and a few other random non-BMWs. The most common loaner though is the lowly 323i, its a Canada only model with a truly gutless 200hp inline six. I always appreciate getting back into the M3 after driving a 323i for the day.

Man, a lot of us got nice rides as a loaner. I was told at the selling dealership that ALL BMW dealers should give you a loaner when having your car serviced without exception. The dealer that missed out on my sale made it a point that I wouldn't get one if I had my car serviced at their dealership. Fine with me since I won't be going back there anyway. hahaha

Back to the loaners, I hope to drive different models of the BMW line to see how they feel and handle differently. I'm surprised they give out Z4s and the new 5ers. Thanks for the input fellas!
