BMW Welt pickup: questions

All,

I have a scheduled delivery date at Welt on 19 July It's an LMB E90 M3. I've read hundreds of threads, searched all over this forum but cant find the answer to simple questions.
1. When picking up at Welt, are floor mats included? If yes, what kind? There was a thread about that but the info is conflicting: with mats, no mats, M mats, regular mats...
2. First aid kit, warning triangle, and reflective vest: included? It is mandatory in Europe so I assume yes. In case it isnt, I can bring some with me - just need to know before I depart
3. The car is delivered with nearly empty gas tank, right?
4. Did anybody do 1200 mile service in Germany? Can Welt people schedule an appointment for you in advance? My trip will be around 1500 miles, so I definitely want to take care of this in Germany.
5. Front license plate: how is that mounted? Screws? Double-sided tape?

Thanks in advance for all the responses. 42 days to go... until my dream car becomes a reality

Yes. Regular, black carpet mats, not M embroidered.

2. First aid kit, warning triangle, and reflective vest: included? It is mandatory in Europe so I assume yes. In case it isnt, I can bring some with me - just need to know before I depart

First Aid kit and Warning Triangle = Yes (don't forget to bring them home in luggage.)
Safety Vest = No, you can get them at any service station near the Austrian border. They must be in the passenger compartment while in Austria, if you need to get out of the car to retrieve them then you are busted.

3. The car is delivered with nearly empty gas tank, right?

Yes, there will only be 1/4 tank. They will give you a map with nearby gas stations. I used a shell station just a few miles away

4. Did anybody do 1200 mile service in Germany? Can Welt people schedule an appointment for you in advance? My trip will be around 1500 miles, so I definitely want to take care of this in Germany.

I know people who have done it (Bubbles), but I have heard mixed reviews as the further you get from Munich the more likely they won't have all of the fluids. I don't believe Welt will schedule.

5. Front license plate: how is that mounted? Screws? Double-sided tape?

Double-sided tape and it needs to stay on the car to ship back now days. Just be sure your CA knows you want the plates left on the car when it returns and keep your fingers crossed. My instructions were to get the car off the truck and park it, and that is exactly what I got, plates and all.

One other note, be sure you wash your car immediately prior to dropping it off for return shipment.

Have fun!

Thanks in advance for all the responses. 42 days to go... until my dream car becomes a reality

Congrats...

Most if not all of you questions have been answered previously here or at other ED sites.

1. You will get a basic carpet floor mats. No embroidery or foot pad. They should be on your production order.

2. Pull and and take the following when you drop off the car. Owners Manual, First Aid Kit and Warning Triangle. If you don't they will get pulled at port.

3. Quarter tank and a handout of the nearest gas stations is provided at Welt.

4. Yes you can do in Germany keep your receipt and BMWNA will reimburse you.

5. Double sided tape.

Congrats on the ED! Hands down, the coolest trip you can do with your car!!

1. Standard floor mats were included in my ED.
2. First aid kit and Triangle were in car. No vest, but available at almost all gas stations.
3. Less than 1/4 tank of gas. BMW Welt gives the locations of the closest fueling stations, and Navi (if equipped) has most listed if they aren't convienient.
4. We performed first service in Germany. Idrive (if equipped) lists closest Dealers and phone numbers. Cost is approx $350 USD. Supposed to be refunded by BMWNA, but I never bothered to receive credit. Trip was worth the cost.
5. Double sided tape for plate. Never moved in over 2 weeks.

And, yes, I type too slow....

You get plain/cheapo mats.

Yes.

I think that it will be a third of a tank, due to German regulations/BMW requirements as they keep some 250 cars in the Welt in storage. That is to minimize fire hazards.

I would guess that you should ask at the Welt if they can put you in contact with a dealer for the appointment, but then you should know in advance where and when you will be at those 1200 miles so the nearest dealer can be scheduled.

Does everyone in the car require a safety vest in Austria or only the one who steps out to service the car (flat tire, whatever)? I can get them at Lowe's/Home Depot pretty cheaply and they are attractive and slimming once donned.

I understand that failure to plan to is planning to fail but a safety vest seems excessive.

They're only required for someone who gets out of the vehicle, and it must be in the passenger compartment, not the trunk. They also sell these in the BMW Welt in the gift shop for about 7 or 8 euros. They're about the same price at gas stations.

Also, don't forget you'll need a Vignette if driving in Austria. It has to be displayed on the windshield and can be purchased at a gas station close to the Austrian border.

I live in Germany and have done some traveling (driving the M3) in and around S. Germany/Austria/Switzerland/Italy/France/Spain/Holland. Shoot me a PM if you have additional questions about road traveling in Europe.

Can't recall where but I seem to remember reading that you need a safety vest (stored in the passenger compartment) for every person riding in the vehicle. Logic was that if you had get the vehicle towed everyone would get out.

If you think that is excessive.....you will be in for a surprise if you have to pay the fine.

If your iPod is older (like my 60gb) it does not work with just the OEM cable.

With regard to this, I just took ED at the end of May and I had my 1,200 mile service done over there. I was pretty nervous about the language barrier so I just drove the car to the Welt early in the morning I wanted it done, went up to the check in desk on the 3rd floor and asked them if they could help me make an appointment at a local dealer.

They didn't make an appointment for me, but they did call the local dealer and ask if they would be available to look at my car, and let them know I was coming.

I dropped the car off at about 10am, the service people were very helpful (like just about everyone we dealt with in Munich) they said they would have it done by 4pm, so I got a cab into downtown Munich and spent most of the day there. We spent about an hour at the dealership too looking at the cars and the little accessory store they have there.

The cab rides were about 20 euro each way including tip for 3 people.

The service itself cost about $410 by the time it hit my credit card. But my CA is doing the necessary stuff to get me reimbursed for that.

The people at LogInOut told me to leave my owners manual in the car with the US front plate bracket. They had me take the first aid kit and warning triangle.

I hope the manuals make it back to the US.

I can't remember if it was Welt or LogInOut that had me keep the owners manual. I think it was Welt. I did have to leave the the Tourist Licence/Registration documentation in the car. I also left the US plate bracket in the mobility kit location. LogInOut left a piece of paper on the seats in multiple languages to leave the Euro plates on the car. The car arrived at the dealer with the plates intact.

I have a really old 20G that works with the white cable just fine. If for some reason your dealer doesn't have one of the OEM BMW black cables (they're pricey), let me know and I'll send you one of the 'Y' cables. I have a spare in my car.

David

Can someone who has done ED before please comment on the following:

1) Does your contract with BMWFS start on the date of ED delivery?

2) The start date of your payments (ie. are you expected to make monthly payments shortly after ED or does your monthly payment date not take effect until your car is delivered in the US?)

thanks

1 - Not sure exactly when the contract begins.

2 - My ED date was May 21st, my first payment is due July 13th. I don't think the date the car arrives in the US has any relevance on your first payment date.

It looks to me that your contract started May 13th, most probably the date that you made your downpayment and signed all the BMWFS documents -the standard one week before ED pickup. And then BMWFS gave you 60 days from that date for first payment.

Thanks!

I did a little bit more digging and it looks like BMWFS makes your payment for you while your car is being shipped over during those 8 weeks.
