My DD is a MB C350 with eh AMG package ... they put the AMG on the wheels I'm glad it's only on the wheels ... also could have done without it. Then the price was right when I found it.

But what's with all of the prejudice against the 1M? I've owned a couple of M3's and I think the 1M is a lot more fun. Even if you disagree with that opinion, the writing is on the wall with the upcoming M3 going to a turbo-ed 6 cylinders. Are you suggesting that the new M3 won't be worthy of the badge either?

Oh the irony of your post, and your username.

There is a 'big' difference, how is that possible considering that BMW is putting ///M badges on the cars as it is, tunk, door, etc...

There is no big difference, the branding is associated with the sign. This is like applying the "NIKE AIR" to a shoe without nike air technology, but not really, considering it is halfway correct, and what BMW is doing...

I think his point is (as was the OP's, as well as others who disagree with the M trunk badge, such as many folks in the recent "M is being diluted" thread) is that by putting the badge on the back, you are essentially now broadcasting the M brand and associating it with your vehicle in a way that everyone can plainly see. It can be argued that just having the logo on the doorsills or other places (even the wheels - no one can see it while you drive, and it is not easy to spot even when the car is at rest) doesn't really have this effect.

For the record, I am not taking sides one way or the other here. I am merely trying to elaborate on the issue as I have come understand it.

Well, but remember the new M3 will have an engine designed by M Division - a tri-turbo I6 in the same vane as the new M diesel if most recent rumors hold (or maybe still a V6, if you choose to put your faith in that camp). It will be built from the start to make much more power than any series engine it may share an architecture with, as much as 50% more power, in fact.

Not that I am taking sides in the "1M is/isn't a reall M" debate. Just offering up some facts.

BTW, I like the Star Trek bit; the overt corniness of it all is usually good for a laugh. And you rarely break character; quite dedicated I must say. Though, I have to admit that I always invisioned this as your online-only alter ego. If you are truly like this IRL, well, I would have to say it would surely get old pretty quick.

Regarding the engine, I now see your point... the fact that the 1M's engine actually came out of a Z4 and not originally from the womb of the M-Division. That is actually a good point.

As far as my real persona, I can assure you that I'm actually Captain Kirk in real life. Call me Jim!

Ok, in the interest of further discussing the issue, let me also try to understand.

Basically, the anti-///M badge crowd doesn't want any external badging on the car but is ok with the interior M-sport logo'ing?

So the picture below of an "M7" is equally out of line...if not more so than the car in the OP?

Does it matter that there never has been a "true" M7?

Fyi, I don't really care either way but can appreciate both sides perspective. Fwiw, the M-sport wheels went in for powdercoating today and thus I will no longer have any ///M logos on the exterior of our 7.

Who cares on this. He is IN a BMW and that, IMO is what is important. How is this any different than Mercedes putting AMG badging on a car that's not an AMG. They do it because is has the AMG bodywork and wheels on the car but not the engine, transmission or suspension. If he is happy we should all be happy for him especially because he is driving the Ultimate Driving Machine.

You know what - to be honest, as much as I try to stay neutral on the M badging issue, that M7 trunk badge just seems wrong.

You gotta love the vast library of whacky images from the early sci-fi era.

Not to worry. My ankle monitor is functioning well.

Hey, Spock, waddya think?
