Z-0F'ail

Well, this morning, i was commuting to school in my dads 2008 z06 (he let me take it for the week) and the past week of driving it had been a blast, until this morning that is. I was on a long stretch of road near my school when all of the sudden i hear the noise of wind coming in the cabin (and my windows were all closed) and i see the driver next to me signal me to roll my windows down.

After doing so he proceeded to tell me that part of the roof of the car had fallen/flown off.
When i heard that noise, i had thought something like that had happened, but when i looked up the ceiling was still there.

Unfortunately when i got out and took a look, the fiber glass (i believe) top of the car had fallen off as i was driving 60 mph. Its absurd that in a car with only 7000 miles something like this would happen. When i pulled a u turn to try to find the huge piece that had fallen off, as i feared it was broken in a dozen pieces.

Ill try to upload the pictures at some point.

GM = Fail
Bad omen since i just ordered a CTS-V yesterday, lets hope it doesnt have the same sorts of problems. I must say though, ignoring the big flaw that was uncovered this morning, the z06 is a masterpiece of a sports car.

The Z06 and ZR1 have fixed roofs. The Z06's roof is attached by glue. GM has had an issue with it as this isn't the first case I have heard about the roof falling off. Though those were '06 MY Z06's.

Better then a transmission breaking because it can't handle the power from the engine it is mated to.

Also, i gave GM just a little slack for this because the car weighs 3100lbs. And I understand the sacrifice to make the car so light powerful and relatively cheap. Now, that slack is/was valid only for cars created before the recall. If the issue is still happening then they deserve the ridicule.

I'd be interested in knowing the manufacture date of this car in question.

Your Dad can probably pick up an extra roof and a can of glue at GM's going-out-of-business garage sale coming up soon.

funny response, its an 06, one of the first c6 z06s, so it may not have gone back to gm for the recall.

Im actually kind of glad it happened, gm will buy a new roof, and now i have a smashed one in my room as a souvenir.

agreed. There is no way you can confuse an 08 with "one of the first in 06".
