The comments in this thread are hilarious. I love how any time someone fails to execute at Vaughn Gitten Jr level, and he's instantly a moron who can't drive. Anyone who has been to BMW Performance driving school has been around a track in the back of an M3 with a driver hooning it up very similarly to this. The guy did pretty damned good the rest of the day.

Cut the guy some slack.

This guy is a moron because he is drifting an M3 with it full of passengers. Since it is fairly obvious he was driving beyond his abilities (i.e. he crashed), this was unsafe. Learning how to drive a car on race track and showing off drifting with a car full people are two completely different activities. This guy was trying to show off, not improve his skills. He put people at risk just for the sake of his ego and he is a moron.

So you're comparing this driver to the professional drivers that BMW hire for the BMW performance driving school?

He might have been doing OK at some points in the video, other points not so much.

The fact is the driver took this M3 (JUST INCASE YOU IDIOTS DON'T KNOW M STANDS FOR MOTORSPORTS) to a track (CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT) wow WHAT LOGIC is that right!

Of course when your 16 years old and get your drivers license, the first thing you learn in driving school is drifting, advance car control, and advance clutch techniques, so HOW STUPID must the driver be for not being a PRO his first few times out on the track.

Every track day I've been to someone loses control, thats why you go to the track to push the limits and improve your skill.

He is out there having fun with a few of his friends/family, is it the track's fault he lost control of course not, but its the track's responsibility for making it as safe as possible.

Those tires being there are MORONIC PERIOD.

All that is needed is cones, cones don't break cars or hurt people, 1000 lb's tires do.
Maybe before you start calling people idiots, you should first learn the difference between "your" vs "you're" .

They should also replace the concrete wall with cones and create additional runoffs because cones don't break cars, concrete walls do.
Thanks, Genius.

I'm surprised no one commented on the terrible sound track in the second clip. I got half way through it and turned it off. His driving skills weren't half bad but poor choice to have that much extra weight in the back. Live and learn I guess.

Which is more foolish?

Practicing driving skill on a race track or falsely believing that one possesses adequate car control skills without any formal training?

No, I'm pointing out that it's an individual's prerogative as to whether they trust the driver.

Did I miss something? Was anyone injured?

Agreed, this guy is more than a halfway decent driver who is actually improving his skills at the track.

Was it smart for him to throw two or three friends into his car while attempting to maintain a high level of concentration for performance driving? Probably not, as it likely contributed to the crash. With that said, he certainly learned a lot and walked away a better driver (and maybe a safer one if he reflected on the incident, which the repair expenses probably gave him some pause to do). That's more than can be said for the vast majority of haters who have never driven on track (or who spent 30 minutes on a wet-skidpad at the BMW school and now think they can drift better than this guy)...

the kid is an idiot if he crashes on the street, the kid is an idiot if he crashes in a safe environment at the track. There is no win/win for anyone on this board.

Every person on here is an expert driver. Oh wait, half of you don't even redline your cars.

Thanks, Genius.
The walls are a permanent part of the track. The tires are not.

When I said "make the track as safe as possible" within reason was implied, if you were a genius like me you would know that.

I'm still waiting for you to grade my other 1802 posts, get right on it.

What was the point of that lap on the track? It doesn't even look like he was trying to go around it. If he was spinning out just for the sake of spinning out what a tool, got what he deserved.

If you dont know what you're doing at a race track, it might result in a bad day, rather the track has permanent structures like guard rails/ walls or not, tires etc.

It's not a video game where you get to hit the restart button and you get a new car...

I personally give props to the driver - and feel bad he wrecked.

1. He was on a closed course circuit, not public streets

2. Everyone in the vehicle was obviously there by choice

3. Everyone in the car appeared to have safety gear/helmets on

If he did this on the street, give him a hard time. He didn't - it was on the track. You have to learn somewhere. You learn by making mistakes. This was a mistake, nothing more. I enjoy track days, and have even made mistakes myself- although have been luckier than this driver and never done any damage.

Thanks to the OP for posting, I hadn't seen the videos before, and enjoyed them!!

Totally agree. It's not like a tire wall in front of a concrete wall. It's a big ass tractor tire in a random spot on the track. Bad design for sure.
