So when I talked to the dealer the guy said it will not at all give a HP increase. I replied with well there are dyno graphs out there with before and after tunes.... So is the dealer just full of poop or what?

No, he's telling you the honest truth.

Don't confuse gains for normal scheduled maintenance. Any gains would be getting HP back, and not contributed as power gains. This includes spark plug changes if not yet performed (~30K).

Could be a number of things, BMW doesn't necessarily release changelogs in detail. Typically cars that have a very old SV (typically 190E or earlier) see considerable gains when updating - when included as part of normal maintenance.

Depending on your production date, dealer will likely update your M3 during the plug change if you want to wait.

It's a Jan 08 model. I will be ready for a tuner tune before then. I don't put many miles in her.

Tuners can update you to 240e before doing the tune. Ive also been told that the change from old software to 240e was pretty much the same hp bump as a tune from older software.

Took Tom's advice and found a local indy shop with Autologic.. It was close to the end of their day and to my surprise they were willing to help me out for a reasonable fee (HKD1000 so ~USD130) Although they warned me they couldnt guarantee a successful flash... I was feeling brave so we gave it a go

I was pretty much dead on that my 08 had some sort of pre-historic software "E89X-08-03-530" and when its all said and done I was up to the latest software "E89X-13-03-504"

Will drive it a few days before I can get a sense of the differences... Next up is the GTS DCT s/w from Alex@Alphine later this week

Yes, you had very old software present. Glad you were able to get updated!
