Interior Door Handle Failure (not electrical related)
So I tried to open my door this morning, from a locked state, and heard a "pop" from inside the door. The handle will not unlock the door with a pull. However, I can press the center unlock button from the inside and am able to unlock and then open the door with a handle pull.
Any idea what is going on mechanically?? Bowden cable came undone/loose? I can also use comfort access from outside the car without issue. So mechanically, the lever on the inside of the car will not allow me to unlock the car from the inside. I have seen a few threads where this was fuse-related, but this is not the case, the car unlocks perfectly. Thanks in advance for not telling me to check the fuses. |

It looks like the cable has detached itself from the mechanism. It's a simple fix if you know to take the door trim apart. Plenty of posts in the DIY section if you care to search and browse.

Pulled the door trim, no dice. May be the actuator after all.

Dealer diagnosed (wasn't charged thankfully, must have known what it was right away) a faulty latch (lock mechanism, not the actuator). Quoted me part (@$150) and two hours of labor (@$138 per hour). So around $426 + tax.
Found the part for $75 on getbmwparts.com and told them to piss off. |
