Tunes that allow end-user to customize maps?
I've been searching the 3 major tunes on the website (ESS, VF, BMP) and I haven't been able to come up with an answer, so I'm guessing no? Is the Vishnu/Haltech Procede box the only "tune" that allows this?
I'm basically looking for a 100octane race file, and the benefits of a more aggressive ignition curve mapping, that will allow me to bump fueling needs for a 50/50 E85/93octane mix to keep fuel trims & AFR in check with logging capabilities. Anyone try this yet?

Send a PM to Mike Benvo or The Tech (both BPM) and they should be able to answer that question for you....also...I do believe I saw something that they can set the tune up for 100 octane...also....I believe AA can do it also.

You would have to have multiple tunes written in order to accomplish this.

We can do it. You just need our handheld programmer and we will load multiple files on to it (Stock,93 oct, race gas map). Switching maps takes around 3-4 minutes.

Even the stock ECU will adapt to higher octane gas by increasing timing and allowing the engine to make more power. However, there is no flex fuel sensor in the fuel system as far as I know to allow it to handle E85 or much more of a mix than standard E10. The problem is that E85 requires more fuel and specifies a different AFR. Certainly, you could have another tune that you flash in for E85 use, and then flash back to a pump gas tune. Race gas is close enough to pump gas that this is not critical.
The Vishnu Procede will allow you to play with ignition timing and AFR. You could make your own maps. But I do not see any vanos authority in it from the little poking around I have done. Most of the tunes claim they remap the vanos better than the room full of BMW engineers with unlimited dyno time could do it, so if you use the Procede instead of one of the popular flash tunes, you lose any benefit that may come from remapped vanos. I suspect the difference from the lastest update of the factory software (it has been updated several times from the original 2008 version) and an aftermarket tune, with no other changes, is pretty minimal. Like maybe 10 rwhp. People have gained power just by updating old factory software to new factory software. Tunes have other advantages, like allowing for CEL free catless operation. The Procede also has cat elimination compensation ability, and also has the ability to read and clear codes and to reset all adaptions that the aftermarket flash tunes do not yet seem to have (but may in the future). |

Right, but this is the same as using any else's tunes as well. You have to reflash everytime you want to change one.
