Huper Optik Tint - Comfort Access Problem

I had 50% Huper Optik film installed on my E92 today, and the comfort access no longer functions properly on the driver side door. It works absolutely fine near the trunk and passenger side door, but not on the driver's side. If I take my key out of my pocket and hold it near the window, it works, but the second the key enters my pocket, game over. Obviously, taking the key out of my pocket defeats most of the purpose of having comfort access.

It's a peculiar problem, and I'm trying to figure out if I have any options other than removing the tint. Considering how much I paid for the install, removing the tint is the last thing I want to do right now. Plus, it looks great. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback guys. If something on the car wasn't affected during the install itself, I'll have to stick with my belief that the tint is causing the issue. I'm going to keep working on the problem, and will let you all know how it turns out.

Your car is looking extremely tight man! That tint looks killer and of course the mirror caps too. I hope you can work out the CA problem. I would be just as conflicted.

I figure it's about time I update this thread. I took my car in for service at the dealership a few weeks ago, and they took a quick look at the CA problem and couldn't come up with anything. They wanted to keep the car another day to look into the problem further, but I was far from happy with my service experience up to that point, and I just wanted my car back ASAP. If anyone has a service adviser in the South Bay area that they know and trust, please let me know.

I have not called the tint installer back to see what my options are since I haven't completely ruled out every option other than the tint. I need to find a new dealership to look into the CA problem further, or worst case, take it back to the same dealer.

I installed new batteries into the key fobs, and that didn't do anything. The only test I have done that seems to point away from the tint being the problem is when I roll down both the driver and passenger window and attempt to use the comfort access, the driver side CA continues to malfunction. This is such a strange problem. Next step is to get my car back to a dealer to look into this further.

I hope your tint install turned out as nice as mine. If I put the CA problems I'm having aside, I'm extremely happy with this tint, it looks great and rejects heat very well. I really hope I can keep the Huper on my car, and get my comfort access back.

Thanks for the compliments! I'm just trying to work through the problem step by step, and will deal with the tough decision of removing the tint or not if/when it gets to that point. I have no idea how the tint installer will handle this situation if I cannot resolve the CA problem, and have narrowed it down to the tint being the last possible cause. The last conversation I had with them ended positively, and I know they work very hard to maintain their reputation for quality work and happy customers.

I will update you with my status since the tint has been installed. I have noticed that I have lost a lot of signal on my fob since the tint has been installed. I have to be within 10ft of the car to unlock or lock the car. I use to be able to unlock the car from any part of the house when the car was in the garage. Now I have to be within 10ft. Other then that though I am having no issues whatsoever. I went with the 50% huper optik tint all the way around and love it.

at first I was a little concerned about the the signal distance but after a couple days I dont even notice anymore. I just keep clicking it as I walk closer to the car intill it beeps

I haven't had a chance to solve the CA problem yet. The only thing I can add is that sometimes when I'm sitting in the driver seat of my car, key in my right pocket, the CA system sometimes doesn't recognize the key at all. Even when it's in the middle of the car. It's only happened about 5-10 times now, and definitely adds a unique angle to the problem. I should also mention that I had ALL the windows tinted on my car. I sometimes wonder if I hadn't tinted the front window if I would even be having this problem?

I'm looking for a dealership/solid SA in the LA area to take my car in for warranty service and attempt to fix the problem. I'll probably be taking it in within the next week or two. I'll keep this thread updated.

I had FormulaOne Pinnacle series ceramic tint on my 2010 335i with comfort access and had zero issues. My 2008 E92 M3 doesn't have comfort access, but I've had FormulaOne Pinnacle on my Lexus IS350 and my Infiniti SUV, both with comfort access and never had problems. Yes, I like cars. I only still own the Infiniti and the M3. I did some research on all ceramic tints before I chose the Pinnacle, but it was the one that had zero issues across various car brands.

Sounds like this has nothing to do with the tint at all and was just a coincidence that it happened around the time of install. If the CA works on one side of the car and at the trunk, it doesn't make sense that the tint would cause it on just one area of the car.
