They turned around the repair rather quickly, that's good news.

Any thoughts about either a benvo or evolve tune (I'm not suggesting that will help/hurt bearing life), and 0w40 this time around?

Best of luck with the new motor.

why mess with the new motors warranty. If BMW replaced under warranty, I would only use the 10 60

No, the M3 sounds like it has exhaust leak at the headers stock. that's just the way it is. Much more pronounced when cold. Also all M cars sound like sewing machines. Yours should make some noises from the valvetrain.

These cars are by no means quiet (ala 1930s Rolls Royces).. If you started to hear knocking it would def be noticeable. If in doubt bring to a dealer; however, I believe your suffering from a case of falling victim to the masses fears

I heard this car in person...it did not sound normal by any means.

If it sounds like this, then it's most definitely rod bearings:

I've heard cars that sound more subtle than that though, but it's not hard to hear.

Rod bearing sound will be inconsistent. That rhythmic tic is not something to worry about. It's the occasional (louder) tick, that's higher pitched that is a sign of trouble.

Not always, it can come in many different flavors.

With bearing problems you'll usually hear a difference in the frequency when engine speed changes.

Whatever it is, it doesn't sound good!

Rod knock should sound correlated to engine rpm. It won't change.

That's pretty much exactly what I said. The frequency (occurrence) of the sound changes as RPM changes. There are more variables here though, it's not exactly text-book.

I took 2 videos of my car's engine sounds. The first was during cold start and the second after a brief drive.

I don't hear anything abnormal.
