Just something to think about- for half the price and 2 extra seats you can get an M3. We have a rough idea of what the M3s performance figures are.. here are the CLKs. Gets pretty close. So far ive read a couple reviews of clk63 B.series vs the M6 and the CLK won everytime despite the 28,000 dollar difference. Bigger, tougher breaks, more grunt, sounds better, more presence. Its scary how they could compare it to the M3- like i said- half the price and frighteningly close performance figures.
According to Car and driver:

CLK:
0-60 is at 4.0 flat.
0-150 MPH at 23.1 Seconds
3920 LBS
.96 on the skid pad
7200 RPM redline
6.3 Liter V8
$135,000
530 bhp
Peak-465 lbft at 5250 RPM
Offer 370lbft at 2000 RPM though
186 MPH top speed.
"Much of the suspension is all-new, with shocks that feature adjustable rebound and compression damping and springs that allow ride-height adjustments"
Big difference between this and regular CLK63 would be weight saving changes- no back seats and other things like carbon-fiber ducts you see on the front fascia side and Carbon fiber tail spoiler.

I'm not sure at all. Usually Sportauto states Ring times in a Supertest, not in a comparison like this. But this photo shows the entrance gate of the Ring, so it seems like they tested both cars on North Loop also. Maybe a kind of extended test!?

That photo is shot by the Ring webcam, which may have caught the Sportauto test cars. Probably Jason can answer this...
EDIT: Picture was taken on Sept. 13th, so that could also be the Supertest for the next issue (more likely I would say now)

Best regards, south

This will be an interesting test in that it should be a preview for how the M3 stacks up against the 4-door C63 AMG. I know the C63 won't be quite as extreme as the "Black" series but it should come close to it if MB are keeping the weight in check as early reports indicate.

I will be interested in what Sport Auto says about the two cars' steering.

This is what Evo, issue 106, thought about the Black Series' steering:

"Still, it's a good job that the CLK's chassis relates information so readily to your backside, because the steering is severely lacking in this respect. It's quick and meaty, but there's an odd viscosity to the assistance that takes some getting used to. And even when fully loaded up, front tyres on the cusp of losing grip, there's little to signal that you're running out of grip. It's a severe gripe in a car that targets the GT3, a car blessed with incredibly detailed steering feel.

Cheers

for those familiar with the Black series, other than its widened fenders, what are the other cues that give the car away as a black series. Is there any wording on the model badge?

I believe the interior is mostly unique. I think I remember that the shifter is from the SLR. Someone punch me in the face if I am wrong.

The rear diffuser for sure.

To me, the fenders look overdone.

sorry to say but I don't think M3 has a chance against the Merc BS. If we got the M3 some of us wanted (3200lbs, 6piston brakes, wider tire track, MDCT etc) then no problem. I guess we will have to wait for the CSL to take the Merc BS down.

oops... i meant exterior styling cues. i was aware of the drastic interior overhaul for the black series. as far as exteriors go though, it looks like the AMG badge on the black series has a dark "rectangle" on the bottom left of the badge. and of course, my biggest oversight is the diffused rear piece which looks awesome. good looking out epacy.

I know it's overcast in those pictures.. but what the hell color is that on the M3? if that's melbourne red, it looks horrible without sunlight. it looks more like Indianapolis Red for the M6, and i wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if it ended up that the color in that pic is in fact NOT melbourne red.

This is not the only pic where MR looks horrible in overcast lighting. It's one of the main reasons I will probably avoid this color even though it can look great in full sun. The pic isn't very good quality, but in the whites you can see an emphasis on red, implying the color isn't as red as the picture makes it out to be!
