1st speed violation, how should I handle this?
Hi guys, I was driving back from the Oregon coast today and was passing someone when a policeman (who was driving in the opposite direction) pulled me over. My radar detector (escort 9500ci) was quiet the entire time. He says that I was doing 80mph in a 55 zone, and did say that the speed reading was obtained by radar. What should I do to get this ticket waived, reduced, etc?

You could go to court and try to fight it but most likely you will lose. Unless you find a technical error on the citation yourself or have an onboard camera to prove your speed, I my opinion, you will lose your case if you try to fight it. The best outcome I see in your case is that the judge may reduce the fines....but is it worth your time??
Look for a good traffic attorney in your area and have him do your dirty work for you. Mine goes to court for me without me being present if he has to. I find it amazing how "connected" the attorney's are with the judges. Good Luck!

Just in the wrong place at the wrong time I think. The car I was following was going exactly 55, which is the speed limit, so I can't really gripe, but since I prefer to go about 10mph over I decided to pass him. I get into the passing lane and punch it for a moment because I'd like to get out of the opposing lane of traffic ASAP. Cop coming the other direction behind a few cars sees the pass and decides to pull me over. Boo.

Really? I assumed that since this means I no longer have a clean record my premiums would skyrocket. If it's a negligible increase that I'd rather just pay the fine and get on with my life.

My first violation, I went to court and explained that it was my first, they sent me to traffic school and dismissed the charges upon showing receipt of the traffic school.
Couldn't hurt to try. |

I had one ticket for 70 in a 60 and I had to pay more for my insurance when I got an M. I went with the pay it and forget it route but now I realize I should have went with a traffic lawyer. It pays off in the long run.

Just pay the ticket, go to traffic school and move on. Why incur additional lawyer fees when you're guilty? Traffic school removes it from your record for insurance purposes so your rate will not increase.

Yep, going to traffic school. Don't have to pay for the ticket either.
