Choose which tire? help.

Hi guys,

Desperately need to get a set of 285/30/19, but its been a while since I got tires and did a search on what is the best, but most those aren't even on TireRack's site. I am going to most likely shy away from PSS this round, as I don't think I drive hard enough to realize the benefits. Though I do want to make sure I have a good side wall, so I don't jack my aftermarket wheels.

I'm stuck between Conti and BS, but there are a few Conti's on the site, can anyone help me take a look and let me know which one I should get, and which is a deal? Thank! Link below...

285/30R19 severely limits your choices. If you can run 275/35R19, you more options at much lower prices.

I'm running 275 35 19 now in the rears, but on a 10.5 rim...

... looks a little stretched. :/

I wanted to use the GTS sizing (255/35/19 and 285/30/19) so decided on the Conti DW's. Unfortunately, the choices are limited for GTS sizing. However, I've been very happy with the DW's. Had them for about 8,000km and a few track days and they have very little wear. Great for a daily driver. Holds up well on the track (not "squishy" or vague on turn-in). No experience with rain as I don't use the M when its raining.

I too run conti DW, but in 265/30/19 and 285/30/19. Great DD tire.

This^^^^

I actually liked them better than my Mich PSS. Its just the Conti5Ps aren't available in the 275/295 setup I have now.

The ContiDWs are a step down from the Conti5Ps. The sidewall is way to soft for my liking.

My old 2011 M3 with the Conti5Ps in GTS sizes.

They are, but you have to do the "ZP" (zero pressure) run-flat versions. Those are much more expensive and have poor ride quality (ultra-stiff sidewalls).

Just use the 295/30-19 PSS. It's essentially the same specs as the 285/30, just a hair wider at the tread face and more sidewall/rim
Protection, and a bit taller but still shorter than OEM. There's even a bespoke Cadillac/GM performance develpment tire in that size I think it's OEM rear ctsv tire but not sure. Trust me when I say the extra width will not make any noticeable difference other than looking slightly cooler

I agree the Conti DW needs an extra 5psi just to be tolerable when you push it.

I am aware of this, but who in their right mind would put runflats on their M3.

A lot of people might. It is still the standard on a lot of BMW models.

See M3 does not have runflat tires thread for lots of people who trust their either lying or stupid stealer service writers, and might have done so if not for that thread

LOL true, or tire shops. Although a lot of M3 owners are enthusiasts and 'car guys', many are not. Run-flats do have a bit of a reputation among non-car enthusiasts, namely that they come as OEM on the car and then the owner complains about a shitty ride, only to learn it's because of those tires.
