DCT in the M3/M4 is a unit from M5/M6. It's a massive transmission, a lot heavier than E9X DCT.

If one chooses DCT and a sun roof for an M3, the weight delta reduces to less than 20 lbs. This was discussed many times before.

Also the real world MT weight was around 35XX in the mid end. Real life weight savings in any model will probably around 50-80 lbs more or less. It's like having half a person or a young kid in your car. Can you tell?

These cars perform better not because of weight savings but because of turbo engine. The whole weight savings argument is marketing nothing else. They may save significantly more weight in the new cars and maybe this area of the M cars will improve, but this is just the beginning and as anyone can predict, savings is really minimal.

Do they get heavier as they age?

My manual E90 weighed in at 3700 give or take a couple LB. My manual f80 weighed in at 3540 on the same scales. Both were pretty much loaded.

Nope. It was a 2015 which I sold 2 years later for a 16 M4 Comp Pack which I kept 1 year and then came back to an E92 M. Couldn't be happier

Wow
Quite a testimony
So... does the e9x feel heavier to you?
Obviously it has compelling virtues to bring you back

Yeah the E9x does feel a bit heavier and obviously its much slower feeling in the mid range. Even tho it is obviously slower overall the surge of power at high RPMs is still bliss.

The M4 is just such a different driving experience. Sure it revs to 7500RPM but if you want to go the fastest you shift at 6700-6800. Instead of growing power as revs climb you get a quick surge of torque then a bleed of power up top. I understand the E92 is no match for an M4 especially modified but man the feeling is where its at.

Car and Driver made essentially the same point when they did a quick drive of the new M5. With 600 bhp and marginally reduced weight, the new car is substantially faster than any of its predecessors, but C & D bemoaned the fact that the real tactile feedback that was once the hallmark of M division cars has now been completely erased, and that the car, potent and fast as it is, no longer has that special something that once made BMWs so desireable for enthusiasts.

More reason to hold onto the last of an era

I concur- I just went from an E92 to an F80 and the E92 definitely feels heavier.

I agree and disagree with the other half of your statement (this has been discussed ad nauseum by now). You're absolutely right, winding out the S65 is bliss; the S55 makes power very differently- and there is absolutely no doubt that the F8X is WAY faster stock.

However, the "feel" of the car- the chassis responsiveness and the "right-now turn-in" of the steering in the F8X are massive upgrades from the E9X (though steering feel is not as good of course). Not to mention the F8X seats- I don't feel like I'm sitting on top of the car anymore. Yes, on a straight long road, winding out 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear of the E9X was amazing. But in the twisty mountain roads of Washington, I definitely have more fun in my F80....though I have to be way more careful with the throttle with the instant torque.

I'm also not done with the E9X...I plan on purchasing an E93 as a fun sunny day car in the future so I can have the best of both worlds.

Talk to me after 30k miles in the F8x

Like I said its fast as hell and nimble no doubt. Definitely a looker. I just didn't enjoy driving it once the "brute torque" fun wore off. Power always wears off IMO.

As far as the seats I much prefer the E92 but I'm NFL sized.

I'm putting an ESS-625 on my car so that should help to solve the power woes.

Yea I hear you, but when your daily driver is a 2000 Nissan Xterra, getting into the F80 is an event.
