2008 single hump

swapped over a newer idrive stalk which gave me the green M icon on the dash right away but no MDM.

Updated to 241E, no MDM.
Added $2MD to CAS/FRM/NFRM and then default coded all modules except MASK and 8BMOT.
Steering angle sensor reset, cleared codes in INPA,

Still no MDM for me. Tried the hold down 5 second trick like previous poster but no luck. Anyone else got any ideas for us single humpers?

If you have comfort access as I do, put the key in the slot and try again. Maybe that's the trick.

Also, I coded default coded every module, since NCSExpert can't talk to my MASK/RAD22/CICM I didn't code that. This includes 8BMOT, unsure if this last one matters, so try the key first.

When you turn the ignition on and the cluster goes through its startup with all the lights, does MDM light up during this?

Yah for comfort access. Key in slot also doesn't turn on MDM for me.

Ignition does flip the MDM light on but still only green M in dash. I have the source select button on steering wheel and not the diamond like others.

Wish there was an easy way to tell if MDM was on or not through INPA or something.

You did what I did with the key in the slot?

Press button, Green M
Press power button to turn off,
Hold M button for a bit.

That's all I did button wise. Engine may have been running when doing the button presses (probably was), don't recall if it was or not. Try both.

Maybe it is default coding 8BMOT, since all the MDrive settings are stored in the DME, that's where the iDrive unit sends the users choices.

I suspect that it is indeed working, but with the M button press the DME doesn't know what settings to use, since none have been selected. So you get the Green M saying it's ON, but no MDM yet.

(also have the source select button, never changed it)

Yah I tried a lot of combos but maybe I repeat again with key in slot and engine on or something.

Maybe need to brush up on my German for the 8BMOT error I get and try again.

Ya, try the key in the slot, did all my coding with the key in.

Using a good cable? Older generic ones require a firmware update to communicate properly.

Don't know what 8BMOT error you're getting, but sorting that out and default coding may help.

Post it up if (and how) you get it working.

yup if i ever figure it out, i'll post the solution.

i just did all my coding without the key in the slot but it seems to work properly regardless of that. Might try that though.

Using Bimmergeeks Expert K+DCAN so it should be good. It didn't brick my car on the 241e update without a power supply lol....

WEEEEE.... figured it out. 8BMOT needs to be working correctly/factory coded. If you get an error in this module you better figure it out. In my case, i had to update the SP-DATEN files in the coding tool and then tried to read 8BMOT again in NCSExpert. Once that worked I factory coded it.

If you look inside 8BMOT, it has a "M Button Activation" so i guess its important. The rest of the stuff I just followed the previous posts.

Good luck to anyone that wants this.

Can you write or video (better) a step by step from zero?
I'm want to do this but I'm not very experienced coder.

If trying to buy the clockspring used what options do you need to look for if doing a vin decode? Did all ZCP cars come with MDM?

Found mine on ebay, searching the part number from post #2.
Look for MDrive in the ad description should help. A vin decode you're looking for $2MD, then with and without rain sensor depending on your car to match.

Im a little rusty becouse its been a year but im pretty sure i also got a erromessage when trying to code the engine ecu.

How did you update the SP-DATEN files? I never knew this was posible at all.

and yes by looking at the options for 8MOT, you will see its important to get that working.

lol... i mean if you asked me when i was doing it or fresh from memory then i might be able to help better. Its on one of the programs. Theres a button that says update sp-daten then choose the e89 folder something like that. It wasn't grabbing new files from the web. Can't tell you why this worked.

Codemyeuro handled the coding for my retrofit, I know have a single hump 6speed car with working mdm (euro spec).

He did say the 8BMOT had to be programmed into the ecu, but once that was completed, mdm was able to be activated.

Just wanted to double check - will default coding the 8BMOT module with the latest SP-DATEN files remove/overwrite any engine tunes on the car?
