My M3 ate a bird

The sad news is that I killed a bird going about 120. The good news is that it missed my bumper and got sucked right into the left side air intake inlet. I had to open the air intake box to get to it.

Aftermath pics:

I'd clean or replace that filter... bird guts are probably not good for airflow.

Sad to see the poor bird but I've hit many a gopher on the track and all I ever see is it bouncing off to the side in my rearview mirror.

Same happened to me about a year ago; while bird didn't go up the intake, a whole bunch of feathers did and then they got expelled from the hood vent (thereby confirming that at partial throttle and at speed, air comes out of the hood vent, in case there were any doubters).

Air definitely comes out of the hood vent because I saw feathers there too. Also, as you can see in this pic, there is a blood stain right under the hood vent where the bird settled. It looks as if the bird was going to be sucked right out of the vent if it was open:

Clean your engine bay!!

If it was clean the bird wouldn't have been looking for it's young inside your intake

You begin to lose interest in keeping your car clean when you drive through sandstorms, mud, construction zones, oil, and burning tires everyday of the week (I live in Bahrain now btw)

I wish I was back in Cali!
