Remus Race/Sport Exhaust or OEM Mod
Anyone have any opinions or comments on Remus Exhaust? I was thinking of getting it. The sales guy has me almost sold. Not sure though.
( Mod Bargains) Also I've checked out the OEM exhuast Mod from European auto source. This one they said makes your OEM exhaust sound good without breaking the bank. Last edited by CoronazonaM3; 08-09-2013 at 08:44 PM.. |

remus race paired with fabspeed x-pipe is the perfect combination imo. you get that deep sound on idle(not too loud) but when you floor it, the sound becomes a bit of a f1 but with a deep tone sound effect..
i have this setup and sound is great. good luck. |

There is a minimal drone but it is tolerable. Race is definitely louder than Sport. The sport version is somewhat like the "tame" version of the race.
I would suggest you get the race. Rationale: the sound that you get from the sport and from the stock exhaust is not much of a difference. Again, I would pair this with any x-pipe and would prefer pairing it with fabspeed x-pipe. |

Remus Sport + X-Pipe/Test Pipes is nice, wish the tips were larger. Race simply has drone.
I would choose OEM Mod plus the EAS 80mm tips.

My OEM mod just keeps getting better as time goes by. I usually stop what I'm doing just to listen when my wife takes the M out. No drone!!!

I had a Remus Race, it DRONES. It drones louder than almost any exhaust I've heard.
I couldn't handle it.. and if your planning on doing additional work on your exhaust, I can't even image how loud it would be. Nice tips though! |

I've had a Remus sport for over a year and absolutely love it. It has a deep bass like tone with muscle car qualities; I think this compliments the trademark mid-high rpm M3 induction sound really well. The exhaust has great build quality, is lighter than stock and is cheaper than most alternatives. I'm not sure about the power bump - in truth, I'd need to drive a stock car back to back to see how noticeable it is (if I recall, the official dyno is in the 10hp range). One thing to note is that the deep sound isn't for everyone. It frequently sets off car alarms, one friend thinks its a little obnoxious but on the other hand, it's passed the "wife-test" (she actually likes it a lot).
Last weekend I helped a fellow forum member/Euro delivery buddy install an OEM modded exhaust on his car (think its the ACM style which re-welds the inner pipes and takes out the stuffing). It sounds totally different from the Remus; it has more of a high rpm pitch quality which is almost exotic-like. With the windows up, it's not too different from stock but windows down and from outside, the difference is noticeable. The interesting thing is that my friend was the second owner (original owner had to get rid of it because it apparently didn't pass the "wife-test") If all you're after is sound, I think the OEM mod is hand's down the best exhaust value out there (especially if this is a DIY or you don't do a core exchange or costly tip upgrade). But if you're looking to save weight, want a little power bump, more aggressive tips (Remus has the cool CF tip option) and can't stand the ugly OEM cannisters then you can't go wrong with the Remus. If you aren't in a hurry, maybe we could all meet up sometime in the next few weeks so you can hear a side by side comparison. We're all in SoCal so this is do-able. |

Love the ACM mod by itself. If you are planning on doing test pipes or secondary cat delete, then stay away from OEM mod.

I had Remus Sport with ACM test pipes and while I loved the sound it had during spirited driving I could not live with it. If you are cruising at ~80mph, you will hear the exhaust sound which I would prefer to be silent while I am just taking it easy. I would say it was basically at the tipping point for me at loving it and hating it at the same time. I went from Remus Sport to OEM mod and I actually could live with the OEM mod more than than the Remus Sport with test pipes. It looks like you are going down the same path as me, and I would recommend just going straight to a Valvetronic exhaust to save some money and time. My current setup, I can go F1 loud to super silent from the press of a button. When the valve is closed, it is quieter than stock exhaust.

Being the current owner of aznboi's old Remus Sport, I was feeling the same way...really liked it around town, but found the sound level almost unbearable at 75 - 80 on the highway unless I shifted from 7th to 6th. That really quieted the exhaust but was not an acceptable solution.
Yesterday I had Carma Motorsports look over the exhaust, and they could not stop exhaust leaks using the existing clamps. So they welded the Remus mufflers to the Eisenmann connecting pipes to seal off all leaks. The decrease in the volume at the dreaded 75 - 80 range is very substantial, and the overall tone of the exhaust is better. I haven't gone on any long road trips since the welding job yesterday, but I'm hopeful Carma turned this exhaust into a keeper. Also, my exhaust is stock other than the connecting pipes and mufflers. |
