So from what I gather the Lux AEs are better than the AIBs? Ive been trying to figure this whole thing out for a while now on which ones to get. I think I've come to a conclusion and am leaning to the Lux. What should be a simple mod gets so confusing sometimes

In all honesty, you'd probably have to see them both in person in order to make a decision, and something tells me that they won't be very different. With the pics posted here, it's so hard to tell what looks better, and the pictures can be "altered" to make them look better.

I think he is specifically looking for an LED solution though, not an HID.
I currently have the Alpine HID's and they are definitely bright (almost bright enough to drive with just them at night), but there are concerns out there about the heat given off by HID's causing yellowing on the Angel Eye itself. I am concerned about this as well, but haven't had mine long enough to see if it is yellowed or not. Some people have posted pics of yellowing for sure, but I think they were only the camaross kit. I don't think anyone has had yellowing with the Alpine kit yet.

Its because this is a simple mod that nobody has gotten right yet. Its too early to tell yet what the outcome of the new LUXs will be but every other LED AE out there has had major issues, AiB and the original LUX included. Actually I shouldn't say original LUX because the early LUX H8s were the ones that worked. It was when the driver pack was revised that it had issues and the recall was issued.

As promised here are the shots of Lux V3's in direct sunlight. The sun was more or less directly behind me when I shot these photos.
(Note: yes I know my hood is open... we're getting prepped it for something special ) As you can see depending on the angle at which you look at the angel eyes elements of outer/inner rings are more visible than their opposite: |

Thanks for posting those pictures . that 3rd picture looks like it was taken from an odd angle because you can't see the outer ring. Overall are you pleased with the brightness of them during the day and night time ?

I love my LUX so far!
Here is a comparison of them with my old Weisslichts. They are at least 3-4x brighter. The Weisslichts are similar in brightness to AIB v2. They're good and way better than the GP thunders, but the LUX are in another league. HIGHLY recommended. Better pics tomorrow when it's brighter out. |

Once I get my car back I am going to do some "proper" shoots including indoor areas where the Lux V3s will really stand out. It's really overcast/dusk lighting that really makes LED angel eyes look stunning. In summary I am more than happy with my choice! If anyone is in the bay area and wants to see it in person feel free to show up at the Santa Row Meet next weekend or the weekend afterwards. |

The only time I saw flickering was the very first time I started up after install.
None since. For note, my iDrive settings are for "DRL's on" and headlight settings are on Auto.

not too hard IMO, the heat sinks have 6 vertical grooves/slots that you can use a flat head screw driver to assist in turning/locking the bulbs into place once you get the tabs lined up and base into the ae socket. I just used my halogen bulbs last position before removing to help line up the tabs....took me about 15 minutes....also helps to back the lux's in, heat sink first into the housing rather than trying to insert the led's into the h8 socket first....

My opinion. Both are probably so similar in looks you couldn't tell. Lux is cheaper, slightly easier to install since heat sink is attached.I have lux. Lux not too bright. No bleeding. Very visible during day. If you want LCI look, HID is the way. I personally think new LCI is too bright. IMO. I am very pleased. Can't go wrong with either but Lux has a slight advantage as above.
