Noise coming from driver side console

Hi guys,

Since yesterday, I began to notice an on-off humming noise that seemingly comes from behind the driver side console, almost located directly behind the driver side A/C vent.

It's not really noticeable when the engine is running above 2000RPM, but when I come to a stop at a light, I could definitely hear it. It sounds like an un even humming noise, after 10-15 seconds, it will disappear, with a "tick" sound that comes from behind the centre of the console. Sounds almost like a refrigerator, where it would run for a while to generate cold air, and comes to a "break", with a sound effect.

The above continues to happen, on and off.
Any idea what this is? It's pretty annoying.

Looks like the same noise was also described in this thread here:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...t=noise&page=2

Except that OP of the thread above only hears up when first starting the car, and I hear it during a trip (on-going)

Had it on my 09 and lived with it for 2 years before selling the vehicle.

It will get worse by the ways of switching to a high speed whine at low RPM (like it is doing on you now, just without the whine). Everytime I took in the dealer it go away. Most annoying because it happened about 20 times through out the 2 years.

You guys are bang-on. It did in fact switch to a louder, more noticable whine at lower RPM.

Why??? What is causing this noise?

Well I did suspect that it's something to do with my DVD music, so I ejected the disc today. But the noise is STILL there. And yes, it lasts for about 10-20 seconds.

This only happened since 2 days ago. I wonder if it's one of the following:

1) A/C
2) Fuel pump
3) CD / DVD player

Any educated guesses?

UPDATE:

This is more serious than anticipated.

This morning when I was in traffic, all of the sudden CEL came on, redline instantly became 4000RPM, and the car refused to go any faster than 50KM/H, nearly causing me into an accident.

I parked the car to the curb, waited for a minute, restarted the car and CEL was gone, things went back to normal, though the noise (see top of thread) persisted.

Right now the car is at the dealership. Hopefully soon I'll find out the cause.

Alright guys, here's the update.

Turned out that the sensor in the brake booster vacuum pump was faulty, resulting the pump to keep on pumping as it thinks the pressure is low, and that's the noise I am describing in the initial post.

Issue was corrected after a new sensor being installed. Now the pump only runs ONCE during cold start, which is normal.

I hope this thread remains helpful to those with the same problem.

Thank you for the update. I've got this going on now, but mine isn't coming out of limp-mode!!

What did it cost you? Easy fix. Easy part?

Thank you!

This is why i love the forums...I have the same exact issue.

I just did the GTS DCT Tune and BPM Stage 2 software and thought the issue was related to that stuff... I hope this wont be an issue if I bring it into the dealer to replace the sensor.
