Newest rumors from E92 M3!

One user in m-forum says, that he has seen a flyer with some information about new M3:

18 inch standard wheels, visible carbon-roof, 6-speed manual.
No SMG, even not as option,no HUD.

New colours: jerez-black,melbourn-red.

engine: V8 with 4,0 liters.

No price on the flyer, but its said about 63.000 € in germany.

Hmmm, if that is true I would be quite surprised!

Greetings Robert

I would be absolutely floored if it didn't come with an SMG-type tranny option.

Lol you guys are actually debating if the New M3 is not gonna acome as SMg...

remember smg 1st started with BMW on the E46 M3 lol.
even though i am getting 6 spee dmanual it is ridiculously stupid if they don't have SMg...

unless you guys are talking about SMG being a higher priced option then i don't lol

I agree. Half of the E46 M3's sold had SMG, so it has to be coming at some point in this car. I've heard BMW is working on direct shift double-clutch gearbox like Audi has, so maybe they are going to wait until that gearbox is available.

You can't convert currency and say that will be the US price.

Here is what the E60 M5 Bases for. $83,195 / 86,200 €

You simply cannot do a currency conversion.

No SMG? That would turn away about 90% here, as best I can tell.

That would be a very bad move for sales.

My bad re: the Euro conversion.

As far as SMG goes, I think all of know that there WILL be some type of a clutch pedal (less) and torque converter (less) tranny. I won't get it; as I prefer the old stick, but there will be one offered.

The confusion lies in the fact that the US didn't get SMG until the E46. It was available in most other markets in the E36.

Exactly, it wasn't very good either. The E46 had the second generation, hence "SMG II"

It is supposedly superior on a racetrack, but it doesn't seem like it would be as fun to drive everywhere else. I will admit that I have never driven an SMG-equiped BMW. I have driven a 360 Spider with the F1 option and didn't care for it too much (the transmission, not the car!).

I have heard a lot of complaints about the 360's F1 tranny. While I don't have any experience with the 360, I do have a good amount of time behind the wheel of the f430 with its improved F1 transmission. I LOVE the F1 in the f430. It is just incredible. If the new BMW system is at all like the f430 I would never even consider the standard manual.

I agree, however it is quite likely that it could just be the same, or a refined version of the M5's. BMW hasn't yet perfected their F1 style tranny. They need to use the dual clutch (ala Audi) method.

those rumours are BS ...

no doubt it will come with SMG ... E36 had SMGI and E46 had SMGII ... CF roof ... remember the CF roof can be expensive, (pretty much why the CSL was so expensive cause of all the damn CF... so i was told) so thats why its on the M6 and not on the M5 and i really really doubt on the E9x M3 ... It will just push the price too high on the car .. .the car cant be more than an M5 ... period ...

Personally i think they will be a new yellow ... the E36 had dakar and the E46 phoenix yellow ... there just has to be a yellow in the M line-up

The performance figures also will be close to the M5 ... 0-100km/h the same or 0.1s faster but close ... like what we have seen with the previous iterations of M5 vs M3 models ... so quoted would be 4.8s or 4.7s

So yes i think it will be really close RS4 vs M3 ... and dont be surprised if the RS4 is a better performer ... but i honestly dont see the M3 beating the RS4 by a big margin if it does

They need a new red for the M3. Imola is just too ugly, IMO. BMW marketing - see also 'Porsche Guards Red' and Ferrari's bright red for a reference. I have seen the new 'Crimson Red' that replaced my beloved 'Electric Red', and I'm not impressed. It looks very close to Imola.
