Question about European Delivery

I have a delivery "booked". but other than an email from the dealer telling me the date, I do not have anything else - nothing from BMW Canada, no delivery time, address to go to or statement of what papers to bring with me.

What is the experience of others who have done a European Delivery through BMW Canada?

I know from reading this board that the US experience is generally quite different.

Thanks

I know from my experience, once my dealer has the dates I requested, it is sent to BMW Canada, from there they will check on production dates and advise on the dates requested are good or not. Once your dealer gets the date from BMW Canada, usually you will get a letter in the mail in a few weeks...

I did ED on May 16 of this year. I received an e-mail (the "Welcome Package") from BMW Canada on April 12 notifying me of the details of what to bring, what time, FAQs etc. I knew the date before hand. So, what's that? Just shy of 5 weeks notice?

They asked me to bring a some stuff that they didn't look at like a social insurance card etc. Best bring along everything they ask for though. You will need to establish your identity with a passport and provide a valid drivers license.

You may want to get an international drivers license from CAA. Some countries like Austria ask for one and it doesn't cost much.

Make sure you get them to nail down a date, and confirm, my delivery date was changed a couple times ended up being July 26th. I recieved some documentation from my dealership in the weeks after my purchase long before I left..

+1 on the IDL from CAA, it is required in Austria, was very glad to have mine with me.

Overall it's an awesome experience, the delivery, sometimes dealing with an inexperienced dealer lessens the joy.

Are you in Canada now or in Switzerland? I think your e-mail is the first notification the rest will follow in short order. If you are not happy at this point in time I would if I was you get in touch with the sales individual that you were dealing with.

I am sure if you do this results will follow.

Good Luck with your ED it will be an experience of a life time you see

Thanks folks,

On Friday I called BMW in Munich. Speaking German comes in handy. I could hear their keyboard clicking in the background and 10seconds later they confirmed the date and time.

Later in the day, BMW Canada sent an email to my CA who is on vacation with my welcome package. He forwarded it to me. I now have a better idea of my delivery day.

It is really nice to have a "support group" here at m3post.com !

I have an early delivery slot so I will have time in the afternoon to have snow tires mounted. I will book that on Monday.

Glad all worked out I somehow knew it would ... we look forward to the picture thread once you take delivery. Meanwhile

December 2! Hence the nervousness when 15 days before I had nothing from BMW Canada.

I know that a late fall delivery is not ideal (I will put winter tires on immediately) but unlike most I will not have to ship the car back home in 2 or 3 weeks. I get to keep it here until I move back home at the end of my 3 year posting.

Early Sunday morning runs along the autobahn, a weekend doing the Stelvio pass, or like last weekend in my rented Alfa Romeo Giulietta doing grocery shopping in Aosta by crossing the Grand St. Bernard Pass (a personal favourite). So yes, my M3 will be enjoyed as it was meant to be before it goes to Canada to live a more sedate life!

So you are a canadian citizen who ordered a canadian spec vehicle in switzerland for your 3 year work contract

I understand BMW ED can provide insurance for 6 months on those temporary plates, but the car has to leave right after?
Unless you register with Swiss Plates?
