Recommendations for beater car under $8k?

Looking for a 'new' old beater car for under $8k. Anyone have any recommendations? It's either that or a lease for less than $200/month. Fromt left to right, I'll describe what is of importance to me in making this decision sedan/safety/styling/features/performance. It must be automatic. I am not looking for a sports car.

I think you should stay away from German cars if you want a "reliable" beater.

If you are good with doing repairs yourself...go ahead...but otherwise, just get a junky old Honda or Toyota. Those things keep on going...and are relatively easy/cheap to fix.

the AW11 MR2s are very cheap. the SW20 MR2s are nice cars too! MR drivetrain for a very cheap price. How about a miata too? The really old ones with pop up lights still handle very well and are pretty cheap.

if you are looking for TSX size, i'd go with Honda Accord, the last generation one s are pretty cheap these days, easy to drive and operate, and if you go with the inline-4 motor, its cheap on gas too
