...It wasn't a BMW technician. The left one ventilates the underhood “electrobox” where electronic components live; the right one, though open, provides no necessary ventilation.

Right on
I was pretty sure this was the case. I think I originally heard it during the E46 M3 launch from BMW... something like "functional side gills for cooling all the high power CPUs..." or some such truthful but marketing-esque statement.

Back on the topic...
No, the badge will definitely stay. I really don't see the purpose of debadging. Like you could wind a race and they would think you only have a 335i.

I think i'm gonna debadge mine, i've debadged all my others, i just think the car looks better and the lines are smoother (if that makes any sense) when there isn't writing bulding out, am i off in thinking that?

Running/hiding
There are traditionally about 30 ///M badges all over the car, dash, seats, suspension arms, brakes, sills, engine, etc, etc. You can run (and get rid of the large chromie on the trunk lid) but you can't hide! JK... It will look cool badged or debadged.

M cars are distinctly different from their series class, and stands out as a M car. but for those who forget I'd keep the badge on. I paid dearly for it.

Are you crazy? M3 is ultimate. Why the hell would I want to debadge it? I debadged my quad exhausted 330 to make the car look a little mysterious, but with the M3, I don't want the mystery. I want people to recognize it from distance, from front, back, sides, top or whatever angle it is. M3 is the real Ultimate Driving Machine and not too many people can have it.

I don't get it! It's kind of sad that many people buy an M3 in order to swank! Regards south |

at what stage is the car debadged

It's interesting how many prestige care are debadged in Germany ... BTW, I once saw a 760Li in Deutschland that had a 750 badge: guess the driver did not want to appear too "swanky" (wanky )
