I just picked up a 2010 E92 DCT and while doing the x pipe I saw it was leaking, I'm actually at the dealer right now and it will be covered under warranty.

Update: dealer ordered the parts today.

Do you guys know how long this takes?

Had shipped my 2011 M3 (23K miles with 20+ track days) to iND for some work. While it was there they noticed the DCT was leaking (slightly). They took it to the local Dealership who traced down the leak and at my request replaced the DCT fluid. Warranty.

Sorry, that's all I know for now. I have requested a copy of the Service Work Order and can post more once I receive.

Parts don't seem to ridiculous price-wise. Makes you wonder how many DCT cars are running around with a small leak though.

Doesn't seem like there is a lot to it either. Apparently the leak comes from the pan cracking.

How exactly do you go about checking under the pan for this? I wiped my finger across the top side of the pan and it was just really greasy, which I thought was just all road grime from over the years. Now thinking back, it could have all been DCT fluid...

iDrive wont warn you of low trans fluid right? No fluid level sensor?

Pretty sure it's just a temp sensor. No level sensor. However, it might overheat quicker if the fluid starts getting low, so you might get that indirect warning.

Sorry guys, haven't updated this thread for a week or so...Been real busy at work!

Basically i had my car inspected a week ago today, been waiting to hear back from BMW main dealer. Nothing as of yet. Still no idea if its going to be covered by warranty or not..

I'll chase them up tomorrow and give them a call. Once i hear anything i'll let you guys know.

Took BMW 2 days to inspect my car as they had to get the specific "M" mechanic and i've been a week now since without contact.

Mine was confirmed leaking from the side gasket and return oil cooler hose as well. Glad to hear it was done under warranty.

Don't think so, however i hear there is 9L of fluid so at the rate mine is leaking it would probably be years before it gets to a dangerously low level.

They might have reused the fluid and topped it off a little

To my knowledge (read on this forum at some point in one of the other DCT problem threads) there is between 9-10L of DCT Gearbox fluid.

Now, that does sound an awful lot so i'm sure that someone who can look it up/more inclined to know will chime in hopefully.

However, there is DEFINITELY more than 1L in there...Have you ever seen how big the sump is on the gearbox? or how it has its own oil pick up etc?

Scott..it is exactly 8 liters !
I took just my bill from my BMW dealer, i changed mine preventive, the DCT fluid is called Pentosin and it costs 28.95 Euro's/Liter + taxes,so about 38.71 USD/Liter x 8 Liter = 309.68 USD + taxes.
This is the cost only for the 8 Liters of Pentosin ,this fluid change includes also 2 filters,1 inlet filter and 1 suction filter for both it was 151 Euro's (202 USD) + taxes
And i hope Scott that this will help you
BTW.... any news of your car ?

Best of luck and please keep us informed! This is something we should all (DCT users) know. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! Just as i thought. Knew i'd read that somewhere and wasn't making it up ha.

I need to make sure that when mine is apart that they replace all those filters and do not reuse the oil. I will not be having that!

Tried to call BMW yesterday to chase up the claim, no answer with the SA manager so i had to leave an answer phone message. No one has called me back yet so i'll try again today.....

Update from Ilia at IND: The leak was caused by a failed gasket, so only the gasket was replaced. There were no cracked or damaged transmission housing parts.

Still waiting, BMW have agreed to pay the cost of the parts but want to try and charge me the labour cost. Nothing having it so pushing my claim higher..

I am curious to know if the leak is originating from that connection in the hose, from higher up the hose, or from the pan gasket. Perhaps you could wrap something (heat wrap of some sort) around the hose there and check it later to determine if it is dripping from there or originating from higher up the line.
Had a similar looking leak which turned out to be the side gasket. Repaired under warranty but the DCT had to be removed and they estimated it was a $1500.00 job.
