Question Suggested tire pressure for COTA

-

Hey, anyone done COTA and worked out the optimal tire pressure for the OEM PS2s for COTA? (Austin F1 track). Tough one as want good turn in; but on the track you can hit > 100 mph. I'm erring to the < 100 mph setting.

Texas Trifecta is this weekend - should have asked this earlier.

Thanks in advance!

I would shoot for 38-40 lbs. hot. Check your pressures immediately once returning to the pits. The issue I found with running these tires is this hot pressure results in a very low cold pressure. Combined with near stock camber results in the tire rolling over and excessive outside tire ware on the fronts. Good luck with this tight rope. Just don't let your pressures go much over 40 or you could find some snap oversteer.

Yes, COTA is a challenge: today I ran 36/38 and it was a hot day so heated into the 40s. Overall I was pleased w/ the level of grip / balance - but I have much serious work to do here on braking; throttle control & keeping it smooth from 3 - 6.

Great track though: so lucky to have this one in Sth Central TX!

ps Head Instructor said YTD 27 cars, including a Lambo, P-cars etc, have come to grief at 4.

That's because they turn into T3 to late or too early, get scared and lift. Game over.

I don't understand this because there is NO grass...ALL pavement. That section has BY FAR the most paved run off anywhere on the track.

Yep, just want to be steady 3 - 5 smooth wheel / throttle movements and take most direct line possible.

During the M event on Monday, we had someone put an M5 into the gravel/rocks in turn 3/4. Based on the way they went in, it sounds exactly like what you said above.

On a similar note, I overhead a pair of the BMW technicians talking about the car afterwards. They were worried that the diff would get seriously damaged while it was being towed out of the gravel having gotten buried so deep into it.
