headphone jack from iPod to AUX jack in center console works great for me, only cost a couple of $ for the cable. I originally had the dealer install the iPod adapter and it was worthless, this is on a car with no iDrive. That acknowledged that it sucked and took it back out and refunded my money.

How much did they charge you for the IPOD adapter? Does that IPOD adapter allow you to control the IPOD from IDrive (..while simultaneously providing a charge to the IPOD)? |

Do a search for a video that shows you this adapter installed and functional in the iDrive screen. |

The adapter cost $400 plus $200 to install it. Note this was for a car without iDrive. The adapter goes in the glove box, and allows the car stereo controls to operate the iPod. Yes it charges the iPod at the same time. The problem without iDrive is you only get a list of the songs alphabetical order on your iPod and they are not broken down by Artist, Album. Or you can choose a playlist. The problem is if you have about 3,000 songs like I do and you want to listen to one that's not in the beginning of your list. You will sit there and scroll through the list forever. It's ridiculous that it will not let you choose by artist then album. Quite impractical, the dealership also agreed with me and took it out for a full refund. I imagine it's better with iDrive?

Does anyone know what the difference is between the iPod/USB retrofit kit and the iPod retrofit kit?
I going to be using my iPod only so is it worth getting the 6FL retrofit or just the iPod retrofit? Thanks |

The simple difference between adapters is the functionality: the 6FL simply treats the iPod as an iPod in the direct way that you can select/search for Songs, Playlists, Artists and such. The iPod (dealer) retrofit treats the iPod as a CD Changer, so you will need to know that "CD01" is Playlist, "CD02" is Artists and such.
Other than that, everything else (showing iPod song information in the screen) is basically the same. |

Anyone do the 6FL yet?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Apparently, 6FL IS NOT available as a retrofit from BMW NA. I went to Momentum this afternoon to pick up another part, and had the 6FL .pdf printed out to inquire as to the cost. Neither part number returned results on the Parts Dept DCSnet.
I ended up talking to a couple of the CA's on the floor, who eyeballed the printout, and they called over their 'head' of aftermarket parts, who in turn called someone at NA. According to NA, neither part has been, nor will be 'mastered' into the parts availability system here in the US/Can/Mex. He explained that 'mastering' is simply their process of approving and making ready parts available for sale to the public. No further explanation was given. He thought that maybe the .pdf file was a UK printout, and that it may be available across the pond, but I pointed out that it's written in American English, not the Queens'. So...if anyone else here in the US has retrofitted 6FL, please pipe up. Or if any one of you enterprising Euro members would take the time to inquire as to these parts availability, Momentum said they would be happy to install it, they don't care how I got hold of it. I'd be happy to Paypal cost + $50USD for your time. |

I just purchased the IPOD adapter from a local BMW dealership... wow is it useless because when you select random mode, it only stays random if you complete each and every song. If you want to skip to the next song via steering wheel control/head unit then it just goes to the next song on the list.
I'm going to see if I can get a full refund because BMW's current option for non ipod/usb cars is complete bogus.

The 6FL retrofit instructions are out there, but there is no MSRP or stock in US or overseas.
Time will tell when the 6FL kits will be arriving. In the meantime, M3s without 6FL have the mObridge or BMW kits as available options: BMW - iPod Integration Kit for e90/e91/e92 3-series http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...roducts_id=393 mObridge - iPod integration kit for e90/91/92/93 3-series http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...oducts_id=1651 The mObridge is faster, has larger paging files and is end user upgradeable if needed.

Do you think that the 6FL kits will be less expensive than the mObridge kit listed above? |

Doubt it - if you also include the price of coding for 6FL.
