Rear tires are almost dead.. sizing?

So my rears are almost done, fronts are 40-50%. I'm thinking of getting wider tires in the rear.. would it be a bad idea to go 285/35/18? or should I go 275/35/18? Thanks.

285/35/19s are to tall, for the rear its going to be either a 285/30/19 @25.8" tall or the 275/35/19 at 26.6" tall. A 285/35/19 is almost 27" tall...I am running a 255/45/19 front and 285/30/19 rear (M3 GTS sizes) and love the look.

Also you didn't mention what wheel you are running. Is it the 220s or the 359s?

Also you didn't mention what wheel you are running. Is it the 220s or the 359s?

Oh, I'm running the oem 219's I believe. They are 18's not 19's. Stock speck is 245/40/18 front and 265/40/18 rear. The thing is my fronts still have like 50% so they will stay what they are I didn't know if running 285's in the rear would be too much of a differential.

I'm using 275/40-18's on the stock rears, it works great. Do a search and find the threads I posted about it

Run 275-40's on the rear. If you like to look ahead, I would spring for the 285-30 rear, and when your fronts are done, go for the 255-35.

However, if you have PS2's, it may be hard to source them as they have been replaced by the PSS.

Hmm. I was going to go with 255's int he future my only concern was with regard to the differential of running 245s front and 285s rear until the fronts wear out. Also would it be a bad idea to combo PSS in the rear with the PS2's in the front until they wear out?

I personally am not a fan of mixing tire types. More than likely on the street it won't make much of a difference except for the obvious aesthetic differences, but once being pushed around, you will definitely notice it.

For street use, the difference between 285 and 245 will be miniscule. Again, pushing at an autocross or track is when you will really begin to see the differences.

You can run a 285-35-18 tire just fine on a 9.5" wide wheel. The minimum required width based on the tire specifications is 9.5" wide wheel.

Is that true of every 285 tire? If remember correctly I wanted to run a 285 Michelin PSC on my e46 M3 but, if I remember correctly, for tire the minimum wheel width was 10".

Every tire is different. If there is a tire you have in mind, let me know and I will get the specs for you. However PSC is not a normal conventional street tire.

sorry to hijack the thread but I was also looking at putting wider tires for my rears maybe a 285-35-18? The problem is I am running 12mm spacers in the rear with the oem 219 wheels (18"). Anyone know if they will fit?

Not necessarily. It really just depends on what the tire manufacturer recommends.

But yes, you can pretty much say most if not all street tires that are 285-30-18 will fit a 18x9.5" wheel.

You cannot run 285-30-18 tires on your stock 18's with a 12mm spacer. It will not fit without very slight rubbing, however this is greatly dependent on the type of tire you use and what the alignment settings are.

i went with 275/35/19 super sports with 255/35/19 fronts
