Raced a 07' STI

The other day I ran into a friend of mine at the perfect time, half-a-mile of freshly paved open straight-away..

Stock 07 STI MT vs Stock e92 335 AT

2nd gear roll from about 45, dsc/dtc off, hit it and it was neckNneck all the way up to about 120mph and then my turbos begin to fade and the STI gradually pulls ahead.

Pure Fun. Those single turbo 4 bangers pack a some punch.

We're going to do some different race variations in a safer enviro hopefully this weekend, ill post sum vids to entertain you guys.

Thats odd , 3rd gear + is where the 6 should shine over the 4. I have beaten at least 3 or 4 stock STI's on the interstate in my stock 335ci step.

From a roll you should have beat him considering he is putting maybe 230 whp, and you over 270.

Even with awd it shouldn't be 230whp though. Maybe 240-250?

Lets keep in mind that the STI weights about 3300 lbs. thats about 300 lbs less that 335.

But still, I think you should have beaten him...are you sure he was stock? a lot of people say they are stock.

225whp is exactly 75% of 300chp, and AWD platforms typically lose 25% of their power/torque through the driveline, so 230whp for the STi sounds spot on to me.

and no STi's dont have 230whp, thats way to low. 250-260whp is about right, i see stock evos dyno 265-270whp.

i dynoed my STi when it was stock @ 240hp/248tq on a dynojet on 91 oct. The stock VF39 turbos have alot more low end grunt then top end power.

i think the run results is attributed to the driver then the cars.

Good replies, dont trip though it was a spur of the moment thing a lot of variables may have kept me from beating him. I had my sunroof open windows slight cracked, it was daytime, on public streets, and i was a bit nervous as this was my first time at a race etc...

Ontop of that my boy can shift very well, its his second STI (oh I think he mentioned that he tampered with the turbo boost), he brags that hes taken down a couple vettes c5s, c6s maybe.. But like i said we're going to some more runs this weekend..

question: From second, then take-off, would mashing the pedal and kicking down to first help? Didn't try it, thought it would give me mad wheel spin

He is not going to take down C6 vettes just by messing with the boost.

that depends HEAVILY on where in the rev band you are when you decide to downshift. for example, i wouldn't downshift into 1st from 40mph in 2nd - you'll go way past redline and fuck up the motor. but from a 20mph roll i don't see it being a problem. the question then is: will you get more wheelspin than you want if you DO downshift into 2nd?

He has an AT, so he can't fuck up the motor. The tranny will not execute a dangerous command.

Against an AWD car I would prefer a rolling start. Select the gear that allows the rpm to be somewhere in the 3500-4000 range and then floor it when its time to go.

If you must race him from a stop...depends. I always turn DSC off, 1st gear, power brake to about 2000 and let go of the brake while gradually flooring it. Never floor the car from a stop. too much wheel spin.

07 STis are FASTER than the older ones, stock and modded. They have different heads, different gearing, a different turbo, different cams, etc. I am not surprised that he was faster than you. Wait until he gets an exhaust and a reflash. They make nearly 400 wtq and around 330 whp with just those mods.

And LOL! at the guy who talks about going home in a BMW over an STi.
