Surf the internet on your new 2009 M3.
Yes, you read right. According to this website, there will be some additions and changes to the iDrive taylored for the tech geeks. Although, with all the buttons that gives access to key functions around the knob, controls of this next generation iDrive is not as aesthetically pleasing as its predecessor, it is as the BMW guys insisted, more user-friendly. This will hopefully stop the complaints. I mean come on, haven't you people gotten used to the iDrive already?
The upgrades aren't exclusive to hardware, there is also a new software installed. The screen in the picture is not large, but you can see clearly that there menus and functions are way more elegant and classy - precisely what you'd expect at this price range. System menus is also revised once again to improve on user-friendliness (a.k.a. shut the whiners up). Did I mention that the new display has 4 time the resolution to help you see those flamboyant 3D graphics more clearly? To exploit the prettier screen and the more potent means of control, the engineers at BMW has given owners the liberty to leave their laptops at home. They've essentially turned your M3 into a computer by giving it the almighty internet - they called it the ConnectDrive. Isn't this a perfect example of geeks looking after geeks? Now, with a urine bag and the more sickening counterpart for number 2, you can practically live in the love of your life. If inginuity to make your wallet fatter is a direct measure of intelligence, the engineers at BMW definitely rank among the smartest people on this planet. They've found a way to generate revenue from their ConnectDrive. Yes, there'll be a fee to surf on the go (you actually have to stop the car). Don't be naive, you didn't think that they'll give you internet for free did you? To make it sound more attractive, they've even threw in services from tele-aid such as the ability to know wheter your doors are locked with "just a phone call" (and practically all your personal information short of your social security number and the name of the woman that you dad slept with last night - it's not your mom). I'm ready to cough up the subscription fee as long as what they charge is a flat rate and not per pixel of your ponography. All the goodies mantioned above will be avaliable as standard on the M5 and M6 but optional on the M3 starting fall 2008 (as MY2009 cars). If you've just taken delivery of your new M, I'd start crying. Here are some pictures just to make the crying worse. |
