With all things being constant maybe he can offset the weight by driving naked

Probably would NOT notice a performance gain with a 50lb reduction.

So did you take it to an exhaust shop or where did you get this done?
yeah he's a professional welder for car-only applications.

Wow, I can't believe how big this thread has become. I sold my M3 last year and I am not looking to get another. I have a stock exhaust that I saved and will likely do this mod again. Perhaps with some enhancements.

has anyone done this with the long AND short perforated tubes were sealed? I know periokid did it originally but said it was too loud, but wondering if it was because his chamber wasn't fully sealed yet? he also said if he were to do it again, he would have both of them closed. just wondering if anyone actually has this done and how the sound is? any pics or feedback would be good, thanks!

yes I had both the large and small sealed. I didn't find it too loud and neither did other people that have heard it. here is a vid

This was a while before I got my AA exhaust. No this was not completely stock. I had the AA green filter and I gutted my secondaries but to be honest this is really what it sounds like with or without those things. I was really satisfied with it. I absolutely loved that exhaust and got many compliments on it. There was no drone at all and when you step on the gas you really hear the exhaust note.

I have this exhaust now on my car bought from 1sikbmr and have no other modifications on the car trust me it sounds very good. The sound is like stock but louder with no rattle whats so ever. Its one of those things that a video camera can not capture the true sound. This OEM modded exhaust sounds so good to me I have a hard time believing that he sold it to me...But I'm happy he did. I painted the whole thing flat black and painted the tips semi gloss black and man it cleans up the rear end. Do this mod and you will not be disappointed trust me. If you like a clean classy sound that make your car sound a little different from a stock M3 with worrying about waking neighbors or ever having someone complain "Wife, Girlfriend" about your car sound go for it.

I for one would like to thank you
I bought a modified exhaust and I love the sound
Exactly what I wanted, a little louder, but nothing too crazy
I'm buying a 2012, and the exhaust is being moved to the new car

Gewow,

I also live in MTL. Surprised I didn't see you on race tracks yet!
Where did you have you mod done? I'm interested in having mine done as well. Was yours opened from the top or bottom and how much did it cost you?

If we crossed each other on r/t, you may remember my track car!

Cheers,

Andre

Just did mine, and enclosed 3/4 of the long perforated pipe with stainless piping. $300 for the work from a top-notch welder in my area, I cut into the top of the can with an angle grinder. Painted flat black using high temp barbecue grill paint from ACE. The sound is great, purrs along nicely while cruising, roars when WOT. A little louder than stock, much like the videos I've heard of the M performance exhaust.

Interesting to note- on cold start up the exhaust sounds like a boat or muscle car while the air pump to heat up the cats is on. This goes away after 2 minutes and settles into a nice low tone.

I love this mod. I have no desire to get an after market exhaust after having this. My plain was to use this until the winter and get an exhaust but after having this exhaust on I will spend the money I have for a big name exhaust like akra on on rims instead.
