Macht Schnell Underdrive Pulley Potential Issue
I installed Macht Schnell Underdrive Pulleys last week. Now when I turn the steering wheel full lock (car doesn't need to be moving), I get a constant squealing sound.
I understand the pulleys will underdrive the power steering and at low to no speed thats where power steering needs the most power. But I'm wondering if this is normal and other people experience it as well? |

There should not be any squealing. Maybe you got oil on a belt or pulley somehow or maybe you installed the pulley(s) or belt incorrectly.

Have the exact same issue with my Dinan pulley. Others have told me that I should not hold the steering wheel against full lock (bad for steering pump and will make noise no matter what), but don't recall this happening pre-pulley, so I'm not sure what the right answer is.

Bottom line something is loose..be it the belts or the bolts..fyi spilling oil on your belts wont cause them to squeal either. |

Either way, mine didn't squeal before and doesn't now (AA pulley). Something is not right.

I just installed the MS pullies but haven't ever turned my wheel hard to the lock so I don't know if I have this problem. I can try and report back. T he power steering pulley is no longer ribbed so it may be slipping and squeaking? |

I've had the MS pullies on my car for over 2 years and around 35K miles. No problems, no weird noises, no issues at all. I occasionally will hit full lock, but will always give it less wheel to bring it off lock.
You may have had an installation error or now the pullies are highlighting a pre-existing problem |

Belts do grip best when warm, its not uncommon to hear a chirp from a cold engine. Make sure there is no grease/oil on the pulley surface or belts, the tensioner should provide the tension it needs.

Thx Tom, would you advise to have someone take a look at it, or is the noise to be expected at full lock? I have a super tight driveway/garage that's tough to get out of and therefore that causes me to go full lock sometimes (will have to be more careful).

Nothing wrong with a second opinion, but everything should be perfectly fine.

I have the sound after installing the MS pulley as well, at full lock. I wonder if the single pulley design of the AA pulley exhibits this issue. It stands to reason that the smooth pulley/belt from MS isn't grabbing as well as a ribbed pulley/belt would.

My AA pulley has never made a sound. I have the older '08 pulley though. I dunno the differences so I'm not sure if that affects it or not.

I installed an AA pulley about 2-4 weeks ago and do not experience any of the symptoms you mentioned. I double checked
