Highest pitch, least drone?

I've searched and searched but haven't found an answer to this.

What exhaust is best for someone that wants a decent amount of volume over stock, but in a very high pitched, low bass/drone tone? I like the smooth howl of a Ferrari/F1 tone over the growly, bassy muscle car tone.

I believe my car came with a Meisterschaft GT or GT2 and it's just too much volume for daily driving - especially drone.

You can't get the Ferrari/F1 sound because the M3 does not have a flat plane crank. Also, on the Internet it is impossible to get an unbiased opinion on an exhaust because everyone has their own opinion on what sounds good and it may or may not agree with yours. The best thing you can do is get with an M3 club meet and hear different exhausts personally to see what you like.

Good luck.

Well I'm certainly not expecting to replicate that sound as it would require a new engine. Just a way to oversimplify my taste preference in sound.

You really need to hear different exhaust systems to know what you like. None of the options for the M are very cheap, so you want todo it right the first time. Lots of threads on this subject. Anyways, my 2 cents... I love my Akrapovic Evolution...nice sound, very little drone. Some systems are super loud...almost too much, but again, that is all opinionated, you need to hear them In person. I would attend a meet and hear all he different set ups.

From what I've been reading the Akro might be the best fit. I like the AA in videos but have heard it drones a decent amount.

Hilarious people want F1 sound out of a GT car..lol
No need for the snotty attitude. Nowhere did I say I wanted to replicate an F1 sound, but rather I prefer higher pitched, smoother sounds in general. It's called allegory.

No attitude, but when there are 10 new threads a day about which exhaust I should get..it get's pretty tedious...take Rshanes advice..go to some meets..decide for yourself.

Stock exhaust with either test pipes or HFC should give you a higher pitched sound you are looking for.

Seems like the Akra evo will be good for you or maybe a different x-pipe like:

Hmmm usually Akro is noted for the least drone, surprised you feel there is some. Have you been in the cabin of a car equipped with one in person? Love my Akro, good balance for sound, performance, quality and low drone to my ears

I'm currently looking at a used Bastuck system. Going to check it out this week. Sounds like it could be up my alley, and if it's too quiet I suppose I could always supplement with an x-pipe.

Akra is bassy and quiet, but no drone.

IMO, the Meisterschaft is your best bet to get that sound. IME (I've had 8 exhausts in 14 months and heard countless others), you won't find one that gives you the sound you want without a lot of volume and some drone.

Unfortunately none of the rear sections are going to give you a high pitched sound. Just is not possible. The ONLY way to get a higher pitched race sound is going high flow cats or catless which is what I did with AA xpipe plus HFC. Stock rear section. Gives 0 drone (not just saying this like others say gintani has low drone). Truly none.

If you want to know how it sounds, go to youtube and look for bmw m3 dtm race car. It has the high pitched raspy sound. Kind of like the e46 CSL sound but much better.

Rear section alone simply wont give you what you want

Exactly. If you truly want the exotic nature of this engine to come through you need an x pipe. It will be much louder but the desired effect of pitch and sound at high RPMs will be there...and boy is it good!

Have you not checked out the full Innotech valved exhaust? Really high pitched. Get a ride with someone or listen to the promotional videos, sounds insane.

Everyone on here loves the Akra, it has a good sound but def has some deep tones to it. Sounds good but subtly mild IMO.

Should get the same results with TTPs and stock rear, right?

Actually not quite. The TTP with oem xpipe and rear are much lower growl than the AA or fabspeed xpipe with high flow cats. The AA xpipes do not have that crazy bend in it that oem has for one and the high flow cats are metallic high flow 200 vs oem which are 300 and non metallic. Probably is why it gives a more high pitch sound because of the metal cats as well
