As much as Audi is being knocked around here, they took a good opportunity to establish themselves in the sports car world... especially among those who don't really watch racing. All they need to tell people is that they've won Le Mans.

Just like in a 350Z catalogue I used to own; Nissan mentions that they beat Ferrari, Porsche, Toyota, and Honda in the Super GT series... but they leave out the nice parts about Ferrari and Porsche racing a lower specification class, and all Japanese cars (whether GT500 or 300) are essentially prototypes

True.

Winning LeMans is nothing to sneeze at.

Interesting article on the R15... Peugeot and AM are questioning the legality of the R15's front splitter:

Winning LeMans the number of times they have doesn't come easy, no other manufacturer has done what they did in this form of motorsport and probably no one else ever will.

The question of whether Audi will enter F1 is an interesting one and another competitive team would be welcome, especially one with the financial clout of VAG behind them. The kind of budget only Toyota can rival but unlike them Audi and now Porsche (parent company) have both years of experience and success to fall back on. Mark my words, if Audi did venture into F1 then they would not only be very competitive but be up to speed very quickly indeed.

As you can see, not only Toyota, but BMW as well, can more than rival VAG based on budgets.

It takes so much more than budget to win in F1, just ask Toyota.

I'm just correcting his statement. Nothing to do with winning races.

Do you seriously believe BMW have to financial clout of Toyota or VAG.

Look at the net worth of the three companies, VAG is 73 billion euros, I imagine Toyota are a bit bigger at maybe 90 billion but I doubt BMW is a third of the size of either of them, that is what determines how much money they can muster. For an independent BMW like Porsche are very successful but they are small fish in a big pond with much bigger fish swimming around. You have to remember that Audi (a small part of VAG) sells nearly as many cars as BMW.

So no I don't think BMW could muster the same money on demand as VAG or Toyota could, very few can and certainly not BMW.

P.S.

Sure I talk through my ass but at times even the stuff that comes from there make a lot of sense.
