advice : 18's or 19's for track ?

hey guys, what do you think is the best option for the track ? 18inch or 19inch wheels ? i plan on getting r compounds and was thinking the tires are more available in 18's and are cheaper as well . not sure if the 18inch are lighter than the 19's though . any adivce is appreciated ,

As you said, not a lot of choice for 19' as r-compound goes. I use 18' TRmotorsport wheels 9' front 10' rear. Most of the people use 18' rims. In fact I don't know anyone using 19' with r-compound tires.
The TRmotorsport wheels are light and cheap, but be carefull, they are easy to bend.

I have not purchased tires yet, but will soon. My choice will most likely be BFG R1 Comps, 275X35X18 square set up. Rims, either DForce or TE (10.5X18). I am concerned about the TRmotorsport rims due to your warning, although Tirerack has a good buy on them.

18s give you a little better gearing and more tire choices, in general.

I'm going to 18s for next autocross season and I'll probably get the TRs also. You can't beat the price and the weight penalty of much more expensive wheels is small. Of course, I'm not worried about bending them at AX. (My mounter, SwissTire, has an incredible touchless mounting machine).

I am still using the TRmotorsport wheels! All I am saying is, if you spin - you have a lot of experince so you may not - but if you do, and leave the track check the wheels out for flat spot. I did not really spin when my front wheel left the tarmac -and could recover the car, - so only the left front wheel was off, still I managed to get a flat spot on the wheel. There was no big curb to hit, nothing really bumpy I was sure i did not do any damage. Only indication was some minimal vibration but that seemed to go away after a few laps. The guys rebalancing my wheels noticed the flat spot. Was repaired easily though.

I am thinking about the Advan RS wheels now. Still cheaper than the Volk TE37.

Are you sure the TRMotorsport comes in 18x10.5 I think the largest they have is 18x10 still will take a 275 tire easily!!

I think you are correct. The 10.5 - or 18X10 is the Volk, TE, and come to think of it, perhaps Turner Motor Sport has a 18X10 ForgeLine which I understand to be real good. And Bimmerworld offers D Force LTW 5 in 18
x10 at a reasonable price. My concern is using a less expensive, and perhaps not as good, rim on a $60K plus car, going over 140 mph. I don't have a lot of money, but I have a lot of chicken

I think that if you're going to do a lot of tracking and like to use the curbs, then forged wheels will be worth the extra investment.

Is anyone making an 18x10.5 rear wheel with the right offset for the E9x M3, with or without spacers? I'd like to go to 295/30 tires for autocross in the rear. The Yoko spec chart says they'll squeeze on a 10", but I'd rather go to10.5" and run the air pressure a little lower.

TCkline has the Volk TE37 18x10.5 with OK offset. (may need spacers) check the website!

I bought the TRmotorsport because I could not wait. I just had to have an R-compound tire on for track day. But I cannot trust these wheels completely now.
I would like to get something better. Cannot deside between the Advan RS (like the weight, shape, but not forged!) and the Volk TE37 (like the weight, forged, but expensive). Heard good things about both.

My priority is toward Forged rims, due mainly to the reasons and experiences you have alluded to. I am fairly agressive on the track, and if there is a curb or gator, nine out of ten, I will either kiss it, or run completely over it. Likewise, I am not beyond the probably of putting one or two off track, depending upon how far the fangs are out at a given time, and who just blew by me. (Remember, we are not racing) So, pay now, and hopefully prevent paying much more later. Fun isn't it?

I bought the TE 37s in 9.5x18 et28 all around. They had two used sets of 10.5x18 et30 at the time, but had none of these in the new order. I had to wait several months for my wheels, so when they are out it may be a while before the next order arrives.

Love the wheels. Light, easy to clean, and classic look. Plan on keeping them a while.

These wheels are Volk TE37s special ordered by TCK, which means they specify the offsets and sizes and the wheels comes with TCK stickers. Nothing more to it.

If you click on the blowout link at the bottom, you'll see used stuff, but they don't seem to have any used wheels right now.

What spacers do you use for 18x10 TR motorsports on 4 corners?
Does this work with stock suspension?

I am getting a dedicated set of track wheels/tires for next year, so I am looking for advice for moderate use (8-10 days/year)

I have 18x9 at the front -TR Motorsport wheels - with 10mm MS spacers and
18x10 at the rear, initially with 5mm spacers but after some consideration (the 5mm MS spacer has no lip) I do not use spacers.

The offset of the front 18x9, was larger than the rear 18x10. If you want to use 18x10 at every coner you may need spacers at the front to avoid rubbing, but not at the rear.
