ive noticed it is quite a good indicator as to how serious someone is about motorcycling in accordance to how much gear they wear. Notice how the squids in short and sandals never really "ride", but just go to a Starbucks/Tim Horton's and call it a day?

sport bikes, my next step.. for a person that never been on a bike other than a small 250cc scooter and i was serious about a bike purchase, is it best to buy the bike you want and learn slow on it or buy a smaller cc and then get the one you want later?

The smart thing to do is start on a 600 and move your way up. The reason why is that a 600cc is more forgiving than a 1000cc. In other words if you don't throttle steadily the bike will wheelie and if you don't expect that you will get hurt. Many people have died because they thought they could handle the power and that they could "discipline" themselves. I started on an R6 and moved my way up to a CBR1000RR and finally to the S1000RR. From the R6 to the CBR I had a 5 year hiatus and I fell off it as well. Everybody falls, it's not "if" it's when and how bad you fall. I have an old thread here in off topic where I was doing 5 mph with jeans and a jacket and I had road rash from falling.

^ thanks for the info. don't sport bikes have traction control? like on the s1kr i read the traction control prevents the lift or is that jack?

i just wanna know how it feels to wot a bike to redline haha, just hold on ?

Only a select few do have traction control including Ducati, BMW, and some Kawasaki's. The main reason why I purchased the S1k is because of the traction control and the ABS. It's already saved me a few times in "oh shit" situations. A few times while riding, I've throttled to 1/2 to 3/4 and the bike came right up. Thankfully, the bike's traction control brought me back down. The way the S1k works is that there are sensors that process thousands of inputs every second and it determines if the front wheel is not complimentary to the back wheel. If it senses that it's not, depending on what mode you're in, it compensates power to bring you back down. I also believe that the S1K is the only bike that utilizes this type of traction control that's why in the different modes the bike lets you wheelie to a certain degree for a certain amount of time.

On the other hand, the CBR is NOT a good beginner's bike. The CBR has a VERY short wheel base and it is very light so it came up on me every single day.

If I were you I would stick with an R6 or even a street bike as a first bike. I would get a used bike as well because I will guarantee you will fall.

With at 17k Redline....Holding on is a difficult task.

If you truly are serious about riding and doing it the most optimal way, you will come to a conclusion. I want you to come to one yourself after reading the aforementioned material.

I have told countless people countless amounts of times the safest and quite frankly the best way to get into riding so you can maximize your experience not on just on your first bike but on motorcycles in general.

When you come to a conclusion as to what you think would be the ideal bike to start on, post it in here.
